Anyone know if Corden does all the driving in the car pool segment or is some of it on a trailer?
It seems at times that he's not paying much attention to the road.

They don't acknowledge that it's on a trailer, but it certainly has to be. The situation is too potentially litigious for it to be otherwise (plus the similar segment that BBC DJ Greg James does (which Cordon seems to have just outright stolen) does it that way.

I never understood how he made it so big in England never mind America. The cast member of Fat Friends and Teachers to Gavin and Stacey to Hollywood presenter?

I was never a huge football fan but he single handily, made sure I never wanted to watch the world cup ever again. Chat shows, opinions, guest appearances, comedy sketches etc. He was everywhere, I genuinely thought he had more coverage then the individual players!
He had his "melt down" and still came back stronger. I guess it is who you know and all that? Like the user said above, Marmite.

I just watched his carpool segment with Stevie Wonder and while it made me smile it doesn't as hilarious as some people seem to suggest.

Great episode with Matt Damon last night. Very enjoyable indeed and good laughs.

I didn't think much of the Damon skit. It was good of him to do it and he has got some icon roles in the bag but it wasn't as good as Arnie and if they do it again I doubt any will top Hanks.

It was a good enough episode though.

James Corden was on Ellen yesterday, starting a campaign to get Ellen on UK television #GetElleyOnTheTelly

They conveniently ignored the fact that Ellen has been on UK television on two different channels, but was dropped due to low ratings.

Interesting to see Jack Whitehall as a guest on The Late Late Show last week – surely he was only there because he’s a friend of Cordens? Is he even known in the US?

There was a nice cameo from James Corden on the set of Then Late Late Show on last week’s TFI Friday too.

I barely know who James Corden is so I'm mystified by his presence on USTV, I just do not understand how someone so hopelessly bad at presenting landed a show on CBS?

As for Jack Whitehall I will have to google who he is.

Are you American?

I wonder why you have to ask. At the very least the poster is someone not from the UK. But also not someone who watches much contemporary British TV (panel shows, reality shows, comedies), since Corden and Whitehall are all over those.

But... The Late Late Show is for American audiences. And so it's not surprising or wrong that these two are not known. Cordon has barely broken America, via the movies, and Whitehall has zero US footprint, other than people who go out of their way to watch BBC America and/or online versions of other British shows. I don't think Whitehall plays American comedy clubs, so really there's no avenue to know him.

Corden tries hard on this show, but really he's not even a fraction as good as his predecessor, Craig Ferguson, or his current channel-mate, Stephen Colbert.

The tone of that Whitehall interview was more suited to a British talk show. I think the Americans are used to that kind of conversation on their talk shows, even Billy Bob Thornton looked shocked.

I thought it was a valid question. I thought the poster is probably American, but didn’t want to be rude enough to assume that just because they don’t know who Jack Whitehall is and only sort of know who James Corden is that the poster must be foreign.
Plus these are predominantly British forums, so I thought I’d just check.

I was surprised that Whitehall just seemed to be there as a mate and not plugging his series US remake.

He's told the indigestion anecdote before on British tv and it fitted the situation but I don't think it was the right route to go down on a US chat show, especially when most people won't know who he is. Billy Bob seemed uncomfortable.

Then again, you also have Kate Hudson talking about farts, so you never know.

Are you referring to the US remake of Bad Education? If so, didn’t that fail to get picked up after the un-broadcast pilot last year?

It was also a bit weird to see Aston Merrygold on the show. JLS are unknown in the US, but I guess they are trying to launch his solo career in the US regardless.
I know the Exec Producer of The Late Late Show is a friend of Simon Cowell (having worked on The X Factor UK), and it shows in some of the musical gust bookings so far... One Direction, Little Mix, Olly Murrs, Aston Merrygold, and of course Simon Cowell himself.

The musical guests are very UK heavy.

Too many bits that resemble Jimmy Fallon. Side Effects May Include.. is really similar to Pros and Cons just without the Pros which I suppose makes it more British. Then there are SNL type sketches and the song parodies. Although Fallon ripped the doing funny skits with celebrities off of Jimmy Kimmel.

So it wasn't a stupid question!

Thanks for the reply. Out of interest, I assume The Late Late Show isn't aired in Germany? As far as I'm aware it only airs in the US, Canada, Australia and Asia. There were rumours that Sky had picked it up for a weekly 'best of', but they haven't come to anything yet.

CBS has extended James Corden’s contract to 5 years – with a rumoured salary of £10 million.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrit...m-deal-6790561

Not surprising really, he’s had a very successful start so I can understand why CBS would want to lock him down. Also not very surprising that Corden accepted the deal either – assuming he wants to keep doing what he’s doing for a while (and not return to acting) the only bigger jobs are The Tonight Show and The Late Show. NBC have signed Jimmy Fallon to The Tonight Show until 2021, so he got no chance there, and CBS must have Stephen Colbert signed to The Late Show for a number of years (and even so, Corden’s contract is with CBS so he could easily takeover The Late Show at any point if CBS wanted, which admittedly is very unlikely).

No, he's not. But given the fact that current American television is tripe, it's no wonder he's been renewed by CBS.

simon_vale, since so many Americans have been watching faux reality shows for so many years, their IQs have dropped to the point where they find this guy enjoyable. Sad, is it not?

James Corden having a bit of fun with the American audience by having a 'chef' on called Patrick Vieira, given Americans well known ignorance of all things 'soccer' related not many will get the joke.

I’ll admit I’m enjoying James Corden’s Late Late Shiow (even if, in my opinion, it’s a bit of a poor man’s Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon at times), but I do also miss Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show too.

I was very disappointed to hear plans for Ferguson’s new early evening talkshow had been scrapped. I was also hoping Ferguson might have paid Corden a visit on his recent promotional tour for his stand up special, he did Late Night, Live with...!, etc. but no Late Late Show. Which is a shame, because that would have been excellent.

Probably still bears a grudge towards CBS. The spontaniety and organic nature of Craig's show couldn't likely have been replicated in a 20 minute early evening slot, sadly I think the freedom he had on his show was unique and unlikely to be repeated anytime soon. The trend is for shows like Corden's where the host sticks to the script so there's no room for error but everything feels forced and fake.

Craig Ferguson was in a very unique position in my opinion.
CBS didn’t have an input into his show because they essentially gave control of the 12:30 slot to World Wide Pants so that they could retain Letterman at 11:30. And World Wide Pants appeared to stop being interested in the 12:30 slot many years ago, I think they just lost interest. So the result was that Craig Ferguson had free reign as long as he was performing ‘alright-ish’.

These days CBS have complete control, and input, in both 11:30 and 12:30 slots.
