Do any networks allow you to pay off extra off your contract if you want to?

I could have worded the title better but I can't think properly right now I have slept for over 36 hours. When I was upgrading I had about £150 spare so I asked the guy if I could pay off some of the contract right away to make my monthly charge go down and he said no, I was astounded really because its money in their pocket at the end of the day so I'm not sure why they would not want it.

It's probably because their systems aren't set up to deal with it and the actual length of the contract is 24 monthly payments of that amount.

Why would anyone choose to pay more upfront...
That capital is better in your savings account than the networks.

You can pay off your phone at any time on O2 refresh just leaving you your airtime contract.

No, Tesco meant when signing up for a new contract could you pay more upfront from the start.

Yeah, no you can't probably as has been said, the systems are not set up for this.
You can only pay it all off if you wanted to get out of the contract earlier.

Also check the wording in your actual post. You said you have slept for over 36 hours.
Amazing how a few missing characters makes the whole thing bonkers! Hahahaha

Completely different thing and you know it.

The OP is talking about signing up for a contract and choosing to make an upfront fee to spread over the contract to reduce monthly spend.

You aren't technically "paying off" the contract - you've agreed to pay the network for their service for a fixed number of months.

It's not a loan or any kind of debt - it's a minimum term for the service.

In fairness doesn't EE allow you to do this?

What, let you pay some of your contract off up front when you first sign up?
I don't think so do they?

Well not quite that but they let you pay more upfront if you wish and get a cheaper monthly bill doesn't that basically work out to be the same thing?

Yes it is and is pretty much what Tesco was asking. I did't realise this.

Good reply, but only 90% accurate. If you pay off your phone plan early you can then also end the airtime contract if you wish.

Ok didn't know that. Presumed they'd keep you to that. I'm only now on refresh.

It was with Three. The salesman proposed the monthly premium to me for the chosen tariff so that was when I asked him if I could pay an extra £100+ of that new contract off right there and then in the hope that the eventual price would be lower, resulting in a cheaper monthly rate but he said no Three don't do that. It's a real shame because its instant money in their pocket!

But why do it? Keep the money in he bank and you will have more money than when you started.

If your savings rate is lower than rpi then it would save you money with EE for instance. Still it I a marginal case.

I know that plenty of the comparison sites have a slider letting you set how much you want to pay up front, with higher amounts resulting in lower monthly payments.
