What is your general perception of Take That's return? While sales figures have still been high, I personally feel that the only good material post 2006 has been the album with Robbie in the band. In my view, Robbie's charisma made the band great and without Robbie Take That are quite bland, despite Gary Barlow's songwriting genius

I don't think anybody can say it has been anything other than a success. You're really asking two different things because whether you like their material post comeback or not, 4 albums selling 2 million copies and a number of sell out stadium tours can't be described as a failure IMO.

I'm sorry but I disagree with most of all of this. Take That's return has been a monumental success. I've actually preferred them as a four piece since they returned. That's not to say I didnt like Progress, as I thought it had a few really good songs on it. The Circus is still the best album they've ever done IMO though. Some brilliant pop songs on there. The new album was a slight disappointment to me and I have never been a huge fan of These Days. Compare it to the last 3 lead singles, (Patience, Greatest Day and The Flood), and I don't think it stacks up too well.

They came back and sold more records than they did before they went away. Officially, a huge success.

Personally, I hated how the Progress campaign became the "Take That & Robbie Williams" campaign. He ignored their comeback, decided to rejoin the band when he needed to, only to ignore them again when that had served its purpose. The Robbie Williams section on the tour grated on me (my opinion is that Robbie should have sung on the songs that were recorded as 4-piece and they should have jettisoned the RW section in favour of singing some Take That songs recorded as a 5-piece).

As far as their latest campaign goes, These Days is one of their all time best singles. Their album's platinum and they've sold out a sizeable tour.

A massive success. No-one would ever have predicted they would be so massive the second time round.

The people who have voted failure are clearly confusing the poll for "Are you a fan of Take That?". Only an idiot could deny that the return has been a success.

I wasn't hugely fussed on their first post-comeback material. That definitely fit under the 'music for Mums and Grans' umbrella. I really liked 'The Circus though. And Progress was absolutely spectacular. The Flood being one of the best singles of the 00's IMO. I'm all about Robbie though which is the main reason I went a bit fan-girly throughout that period.

However now my two favourites have left I have little to zero interest in them. 'These Days' was bland as bland can be and their latest single was even worse - didn't it peak at #100 on the chart?

I have also never rated Gary Barlow as a particularly good songwriter. The praise he get's is completely lost on me.

Of course they have been a HUGE success since they returned in 2006. The first 3 albums were massive followed by massive stadium tours. Progress is one of the biggest selling albums of all time . However since they have became a trio things are slowly going down hill. The album is still very good and still sold well but no where near as much as the previous 3. The tour to promote the new album is being performed in Arenas instead of stadiums and the second single didn't even make the top 100. I for one don't think they look right with just the 3 of them and this could be the start of the end for them. Don't see any point of any more singles from lll as they will just crash and burn now.

I think the guys will finish the tour then lay quite again and hope Jason and or Robbie rejoin for the 2017 anniversary tour and album. I think they need at least Jason to return to continue and certainly need Robbie back on board if they want to do a greatest hits tour and album.

I find it odd that Take That's first single after Robbie left was a cover of How Deep Is Your Love. That song just didn't suit them and they could have just written a new song

Like others have said if the question is since 2006 then they really couldn't have been any more successful. They are the only act in a very long time to have had four albums cross over the 2 million barrier.

If the question was the latest album 'III' success or failure I'd say success but not overwhelmingly. The fact the album is basically selling off one commercial hit for a pop band regardless of their age is a feat.

How Deep Is Your Love was the song they used to warm up with for vocal harmonies and so they went out on it. It also has a little message to the fans asking the question.

I think they have some amazing songs since they've come back. I do tend to listen more to the 90's output just as some of those songs were really great and varied in style.
It's hard to say as they are very much a different band but they were always renowned for their stage acts winning best live act at MTV Europe Awards in the 90's etc they have just upped the capacity venues second time around.

The comeback was undoubtedly huge, no other boyband has had such success. I was never a fan of them before the reunion, the songs never interested me apart from Never Forget and Back For Good. When it comes to boybands, vocals are the key thing that interests me and none of them are anything special in my opinion. Not to mention those awful erotic videos But I quite like this new album and a half of Progress, even if I do find it completely overrated, The Flood is definitely the best song.

But its kind of ridiculous to see them going as a 3-piece now, hopefully they will call it a day if Jason or Rob don't come back.

But for the life of me, I just don't get why is Barlow so praised as a songwriter, he is so overrated. It is really annoying to see how UK is basically treating him like is the best thing since bread.

Success imo, didn't really appreciate them the first time round (bar a couple of singles) but have really liked almost all their singles since their come back.

Success definitely. They've had a number one single (who saw that coming?!) and the album has sold well. Not as much as their others but it could easily be argued that's down to the overall market going to the dogs really.

The OP is referring to their comeback as a whole, not as a threesome.

A huge success. To comeback after 10 years of dormancy and still be having as many hits as they have had since 2006 is nothing short of remarkable. Many bands reform but become shadows of the former selfs, a tribute to the past but Take That are still consistently scoring hits.
