Things have to be fit for purpose. If you bought a phone for £30 expecting it to last more than a year is unreasonable. Pay £500+ for a handset and it fails within 2 years, and you are covered (as long as damage isnt caused by the user). You would expect an electronic device costing £500+ to last more than two years.”

Maybe you should read it too. You would need to prove there was an inherent fault from date of purchase which was always going to establish itself. Saying you think it should last longer isn't good enough proof.

I didnt say it was just a matter of saying "it should last longer" was all the proof you need. There also doesnt have to be an inherent fault from date of purchase. If say, your screen fails after 15 months (not due to user negligence). Then getting a report to say the screen failed because of x, y z isnt that much of an issue. Yep you may have to pay up front and then get your money back. However, unlike what you said earlier, it is possible.

The Sales of Goods Act (SOGA) is all about inherent faults from date of purchase. You would need to prove that an inherent fault was always going to cause the screen to break.

I didn't say it wasn't possible. I was correcting you on your understanding of the SOGA. Just because a £500 product breaks within 2 years, doesn't automatically mean you're covered under the SOGA, even if you didn't cause the damage.

Lmao.. What do you expect from a warranty? I suppose you want it to also cover acts of god aswell

But the OP stated - So if the phone develops a fault or dies (through no fault of the owner) after 12 months and they are still within their 18 or 24 month contract, is it unreasonable to expect they guarantee the handset for the full term of their contract?
