Just been announced that the music charts will move to Friday afternoons 4-6 as part of the move to release new music simultaneously around the globe on a Friday.

Good move in my opinion, as surely more people listen on a Friday night on their way home from work, and It should get rid of the situation where songs are getting AirPlay for weeks and are available to buy overseas but not in iTunes in the UK until a later date, though some artists may still stagger their releases to coincide with their promo schedule.

Show is shorter and will mainly focus on the top20, but I don't mind that either as most songs placed 21-40 are songs we've heard for ages that are just lingering around anyway.

I haven't listened to the singles charts in about 20 years. This isn't going to change that.

I am all for a change in release dates and chart dates. However, I stopped listening to the Chart Show on Radio 1 when it started being obviously aimed at 10 year olds. Which it looks as though it still will be. I work every Friday until 5.30pm.

It's not being done to (necessarily) increase listeners though. It's being done, as you allude to, to keep pace (my words, not the BBC's) with the global Friday release date and the Official Chart Company publishing the chart on a Friday. This got me thinking though.

The Chart isn't relevant to me anymore, and vice versa, but I thought the idea was, companies release on a Monday, hence the Chart being the following Sunday to allow for a full week (more or less) of sales. If releases are now on a Friday (presumably from midnight for digital), will the Chart reflect all sales that same day - which surely gives a very small window for physical sales - or from the previous Friday?

It will be the same as it currently is. Sales end at 00:00 on Friday and a new week begins then. The chart will be released for the previous week
