Hi All,

Hope the mods don't mind me posting this somewhat off topic thread but as the mobile phones section is pretty much the only place I post I've decided to make a thread here rather than a post on an already existing thread.

As you can see from the title I'll be taking a break from this forum starting from today. The main reason why is because I have a lot going on at work as well as a number of other priorities which I need to focus on. That doesn't mean to say I won't be back on this forum sometime in the future but you probably won't see me on here for the next 3 months or so.

I've really enjoyed having some interesting discussions about the future of Mobile on this forum as well as having in depth debates on various topics. Also the community here is great and that's one thing I've liked, hence why I'm writing this because I know a lot of you guys here.

I'll still be available on PM if needed as that goes directly to my phone but I won't be on here posting industry updates or answering queries any more.

See you all

Sad to see you go jabba, hopefully not for long! And just as we find out the sale of O2 to HW was finalized

Seconded, hope you can pop back in the future and update us with the industry info when your work settles down.

Don't you think there's some coincidence there?

The other option is a secret affair and romantic holiday cruise with DevonBloke, as they have both announced that they are spending time away from the forum.

You know, I told him we should have spaced the announcements further apart!!! : )
I actually wasn't away that long as I managed to get a whole backlog of work sorted in 4 days. Damn near killed me.
Get your stuff sorted out Jabba and we'll see you here soon.
Take care mate!

Yes all the best jabbamk1. I have always loved your breakdowns of sales and other data, and also all your sneak peeks and tipoffs, even if the networks have consistently pushed back some announcements, almost as if to throw us forumers of the scent

Been at work all day and I was going to post similar tonight. Although I don't input as much anymore due to restrictions on what I'm allowed to say now. Which is a shame. I've also fallen out of love with the industry totally and am really quite "meh" about it all now. It's not as exciting as the late 90's lol.

I'll still be reading here and there but probably won't post here for a while. ("Yay!" I hear you cry lol)

Enjoy you crazy fools - I'll be in Football or Politics

Best of luck to you Jabba, and the same to whoever else is taking a break. Hopefully you will all be back soon.

Anybody left out there? Hello! HELLO!

An overblown sense of self importance?

I don't see the harm when people might wonder or speculate about where someone has gone who posts a lot (and by that, I mean useful posts).

The bad news is I'm staying!

Because when he (I assume) posted it was in a forum where he is obviously a regular poster and therefore has developed a virtual relationship with other posters.

Some of us do get a sense of a personal relationship with other posters - weird I suppose but there it is. When one of them suddenly stops posting and vanishes one worries about them, even weirder maybe but it happens.

So in the context of the forum where the OP initially posted this post was perfectly normal and clearly from the responses an acceptable update to post to other posters.

Now it has been spirited out into chatter it makes no sense to us and the people who would make sense of it won't see it. But if the mods don't move it some misery would pass by saying "This should be in .....X, Y, Z... forum"

It shouldn't be on any forum on this thread. It's self indulgent nonsense.

I have no doubt that all of your posts are wonderful pearls of wisdom posted for entirely altruistic reasons as little gifts to the world.

However most posts are by their very nature self indulgent. We indulge our own personal need to express our opinions to a bunch of faceless strangers. Present company excepted of course.

Ho ho ho. I suppose you'll be announcing next time you take a two week holiday and can't post then?

I don't actually have a forum.

On a serious note, I see no harm in regular posters announcing they're leaving or taking a break. It stops other members of the forum worrying about them.

I also agree with the others who see no harm in it. Actually it is a thoughtful thing to do.
When regular posters suddenly disappear some of us do wonder where they have gone and how they are doing etc etc. If we did not then wouldn't be the array of posts in GD such as 'past members you miss' and others along the lines of ' I wonder what happened too........

So, any moaning minnies .......hush!!! You would be secretly delighted if you disappeared and were subsequently asked after in aforementioned threads!!.

Don't deny it now!!
