Your Favourite EastEnders Character - 10th Anniversary Edition (Round 2, Group 1)
Massive late turnout for the final group in round one. It was an extremely close one too, ending up in ties across the board. This year's winner Sharon was triumphant, but for the first time the top ranked does not take over 90% of the votes. In a far more even spread, the placings changed constantly as votes came in, finally resulting in short-lived Danielle narrowly missing out while surprisingly Sam really struggled. Is it down to fading memories forgetting some classic moments during Kim Medcalf's tenure or Danniella Westbrook's fleeting return, which in fan circles at least was widely panned. An interesting one, when you think it's essentially the same character.
Some other notes - Liam Butcher rose significantly after a slow start. I do wonder though whether his popularity is more down to his name and his legacy and hopes for the future of the character rather than anything he's done so far, which is pretty fair to say has hardly been remarkable. Even his brief flirting with gang culture, possibly his biggest 'moment' to date, has been largely forgotten I think. Meanwhile I'm delighted to see Aleks prevail, a small time character but one of my favourites of recent years. Group Ten Results 01 | Sharon Mitchell – 86.4% 02 | Carol Jackson – 81.4% == | Jean Slater – 81.4% 04 | Jay Brown – 78.0% == | Phil Mitchell – 78.0% 06 | Liam Butcher – 66.1% == | Aleks Shirovs – 66.1% 08 | Pam Coker – 57.6% == | Glenda Mitchell – 57.6% == | Sam Mitchell – 57.6% --------------------------------------- 11 | Danielle Jones – 54.2% 12 | Yvonne Cotton – 42.4% 13 | Mickey Miller – 27.1% 14 | Ray Dixon – 23.7% 15 | Rachel Branning – 22.0% == | Greg Jessop – 22.0% 17 | Lily Branning – 11.9% == | Oliver Cousins – 11.9% == | Ava Hartman – 11.9% == | Sasha Perkins – 11.9% 21 | Joe Macer – 10.2% 22 | Callum Monks – 1.7% Yes, Callum Monks does indeed have a fan. Elsewhere, this group contains some of my favourite short-termers, with the likes of Morgan's dad Ray Dixon, Pauline's shafted second husband Joe Macer and one of the finest missed opprtunities Sasha Perkins all appearing - and falling. Largely forgotten, Sasha was the girlfriend of Adi Ferreira, a promising character in her own right superbly portrayed by Jemma Walker she never got the chance to shine as she got lumbered in with the notorious Ferreira clan and later dumped along with them, deemed guilty by association. Probably the biggest character to fall here is Mickey Miller. A popular character in his early days and possibly always in the wider world, I seem to remember DS'ers lost interest in Mickey soon after the Miller family arrived and he never regained those lost fans. Also in there is Lily Branning...is it possibly too dismissive of me to say if you voted for her you probably haven't watched for long enough? Anyway, that's round one over and done with and 120 characters from the past ten years of EastEnders firmly eliminated. Now we move forward to round two and we continue to eliminate more than half of each and every group. You want strong line-ups? You've got them. Go! ![]() Group One Masood Ahmed Kathy Beale Abi Branning Nancy Carter Shirley Carter Stella Crawford Cora Cross Rainie Cross Pat Evans Lisa Fowler Dr Harold Legg Sal Martin Kat Moon Ben Mitchell Roxy Mitchell Alfie Moon Jean Slater Heather Trott Yolande Trueman Cindy Williams Vote for your EIGHT favourites from group one. Voting will close Sunday. |

Kathy Beale Shirley Carter Cora Cross Rainie Cross Pat Evans Kat Moon Jean Slater You weren't kidding about strong groups! This one happens to have a bunch of my favourites in it so I really struggled to narrow it down to eight. I'm traumatised by not voting for Roxy or Nancy. I need a little lie down now. |
