The Beast had a 'friend' a few years back when we got new neighbours, who had a cat in tow. A ginger tom.
Our driveways were next to each other, a big, sunny, block paved, cat sunbed. which the beast like to flop on.
To start with ginger cat would sit on their shed next to their fence looking out glumly like a sentry. But after a while would come and flop on the driveway to, catching rays and generally happy with life.
They would lie in the sun like a couple of fat lions after eating wildebeest, initially ignoring each other.
We would watch them out of the window, and over time they would lie closer to each other in the middle of the drives, if neighbour or myself pulled up to park we would get two angry cat glares, and they would run off together.
It was at a time where our little corner of the estate was cat central, and mostly the Beast would be getting hassle from the other cats and the OH would periodically have to rescue him from our hedge, where he cowered.
But these two seemed to form a bond, if it was getting late the OH would sometimes call the Beast, just to make sure he was still ok, and he would appear with ginger cat a bit behind, would look at us as if to say "I is wiv me bro, ok" and they would clear off.
Myself and Neighbour, who we were on very friendly terms with, would joke about them being mates, although he wasn't totally on board with my joke about them being gay
When Neighbours had a second baby, ginger cat left. From a conversation, I got the impression that he didn't take too well to it, and ginger cat went to live with neighbours parents.
The Beast was noticeably a bit lost at first when his 'bro' was gone, and it was a bit sad to see him flopped on the driveway by himself
But I guess you can't anthromorphisis too much, and Beast would still get up to his old gitness, albeit solo.
The cat friendship did have one longer lasting effect; in that a nasty big black cat, who we christened 'pipe hitting xxxxx cat' (a reference to 'Pulp Fiction') which would hassle the Beast prior to ginger cats arrival never bothered him again.
I like to think that, the two of them gave him a good kicking early o.
