Android flaw puts personal data at risk for millions

Google, Samsung and Amazon have released patches for their devices, but 49.5 percent of Android users are still vulnerable

Only 3rdparty stores can cause this, but it does not hurt to install the patch if you haven't done so yet (and the patch is available for you).

Most of my customers don't know what the Play Store is let alone third party ones!
Conversations generally go like this...
"How do I get Facebook on my phone"?
"Just go to the Playstore and download it"
"What's the Playstore"?
"It's an app that lets you browse all the available Android apps"
"What's Android"?
Etc.. etc...

Oh man i've had worse. Set a phone up for a guy at work, everything good to go. He hasn't worked out how to turn on data, he signed up to a plan and doesnt even know what his data allowance is. He wants to get whatsapp on the phone, i've told him 3 times to setup his google account then go get it from playstore. I even showed him the icons for googlemail and play store. Heaven knows if he's managed to do it yet. But I guess he will be getting back to me.

Not sure why people do not read up and get familiar with using the phone they have. I think it's a safe bet that this dude, along with many many others will not be installing any third party app stores, or side loading any apk files on their android devices.

A lot of those people are the same people who would have owned a Nokia N95 and not known it could run apps, do email, or had a built-in sat nav. I had loads of friends like that. They just get whatever is available to them free on upgrade. They're the same people who don't understand that smartphones can be backed up and then get upset when they lose all their photos because they do an OS update without doing a backup first.
