Madonna - Frozen
This is such an amazing track. I've obviously always known of it but it only struck me recently how brilliant and simple the lyrics are but also the melody. Just really meaningful and haunting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS088Opj9o0 Also, I found an acapella of the vocals, Madonna's voice sounds so clear and full of emotion, it's a really interesting listen, also makes me want to hear it without a big production because her voice is so pure |

Frozen is the pinnacle song in Madonna's entire career. It was the song that catapulted her right back to the top after her crown had started to slip following Erotica and Bedtime Stories. It is the one track that made me think just how damn good she was and it reminded me of Like A Prayer in many ways. She seemed in a really good place between 1998 and 2002, her records were selling by the bucketloads and the public had genuine respect for her. It sort of crashed and burned a little with American Life and the public, particularly the USA, fell out of love with her again. It took an ABBA song to get her back to the top. If only she could have a Frozen type hit again. People need to have something in order to focus on the music entirely and not the controversy. That is something she really needs to address for Album 14.

If Madonna released this today..I doubt ina climate of Rhianna's and Sam Smiths, it would have got much attnetion because she is "not cool". The British are such ****ing sheep. When madonna dies, you will see all her shit go str8 into the top ten. People are so ****ing lemming like. It's never about the music, always about the image.

I would argue that "Frozen" is the reason Madonna is still around today. It single-handedly put her back on top (along with the "Ray of Light" album). A haunting, beautiful song. She was so ahead of the game back then.

It's easily one of her best songs ever. I love the video for it too.

That wouldn't be the reason at all..at the time of release that sound was very much in..so it fitted the current scene and what people where listening to. Hence why Madonna gets accused of copying what is popular rather than setting trends, if anything Ray of Light proves that more than anything..even though it is one of my favourite albums.

Gorgeous, epic song. The fact it's 6+ minutes just makes it all the better. Love this album though. Funnily enough I think the title track is the weakest on the album. Nothing Really Matters in particular is one of her most underrated singles IMO. Fantastic video too.

Yeah I love the video for Nothing Really Matters. Its kinda a forgotten gem
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAVx9RKaLPU My favourite song from that era though is Power Of Goodbye. I think that's her true masterpiece. Its all about Sean Penn - like most of her best ballads. Her divorce from him really did bring out her best work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHydngA5C4E |

Her best album in my opinion, full of great tunes, meaningful lyrics and sounds like an album a woman of her age would produce.
Everything else since - not so much. |

Other genres aren't so image obsessed. If you don't want to be a '****ing sheep', you listen to something because you like the music, not how the band members look or act and if other people want to obsess over image, let them get on with it- who cares? It's not like there isn't plenty of music out there for the real music fans. |

Frozen is one such song. Another is Paradise (Not for Me) and also Like a Prayer and Isaac. On Rebel Heart, in order to accommodate so many songs, some tracks just seem so poorly structured and edited. HeartBreakCity was a minute longer in demo form and is better for it. Hold Tight has so much potential yet it ends so abruptly, barely having time to sing a final chorus. Frozen is simply perfection when it comes to a well structured and well crafted Madonna song. More please Madonna, it is proof you can do it when you want to. |

Talking of RH, there's a song on there (I think it's 'Inside Out'? - think that's the title) where I feel there's an obvious glitch editing wise. There's a section right in the middle where the song fades out and (unless it's intentional) sounds as if the song is about to end. Then it comes back in with "I wanna know what you're all about", it just seems a bit strange.
Also, another glitch is right at the beginning of 'Bitch I'm Madonna' you hear a "this" way before she's even said "you're gonna love this". I'm being picky but I really can't work out why Madonna has let this slip past when she's such a perfectionist. |

Beautiful song
It's a shame she was never nominated or won any grammys for it. Everyone was mad over Ray of light but for me, Frozen was the true gem on the album. The video is one of my earliest memories of being a child and watching the music channels. The production is simply haunting and stunning. The Lyrics make you melt, and Madonna's vocals make me go all funny. As successful as it was, I find it that it is often overlooked |

I'm not a big Madonna fan, but I agree that Frozen is one her finest moments and the production still sounds amazing today.

I actually think some of her slower songs are just as catchy as the bigger uptempo hits too. 'You'll see' (so underrated) is very memorable particularly the production alone which is quite haunting, especially at the start. 'Frozen' obviously being another.
'The Power of Goodbye' is another beautiful song |

Another point to make about Frozen was that the video was directed by Chris Cunnigham. His work, although very creative and innovative can seen as dark and quite leftfield. Prior to Frozen, he had just directed the videos 'Only You' by Portishead and 'Come To Daddy' by Aphex Twin who he would later work with again for Windowlicker. Perhaps this is a contributing factor to the singles success?
