...over a potential second coalition deal with the Conservatives:

Senior figures in the party told The Times that they would consider voting down a Conservative Queen's Speech to remove Prime Minister David Cameron from office, while one leading Lib Dem demanded a *veto over every Tory budget as a price for joining a second coalition...Another Lib Dem said: "There are many in the party who would, in many ways, be happy to sit the next parliament out, repolish our Liberal message, and see others make a mess of government. We could then focus on rebuilding our local government base, and membership."

I think it's dawning on them that if they opt to star in Harsh Cuts 2: The Sequel then they'll inflict yet more damage on their already diminished party.

Hilary Benn today's Andrew Neil victim.

Amazing that one question from a member of an audience is now dictating the questions Labour are having to answer today and that the agenda for discussion is now Labour spending pre 2010. That is not good for them so close to polling day.

Absolute disaster for the Tory's if its true that some LD's would vote down a tory queen speech.

I've had leaflets from Labour, Conservative and UKIP - nothing from the Liberals. Other half was not polite about UKIP, but then she is Thai.

Farage has said he would be prepared to have UKIP back a CON + LIB DEM coalition, assuming UKIP have MPS.

I assume this would be a very unstable coalition in the UK?

I believe Farage meant on a vote by vote basis rather than an official deal. Similar to what the SNP are proposing for Labour.

Also the Greens are getting interested in deals too. I think everyone is getting a tad carried away.

The Greens are for sure. I can see them having 0-1 MPs.

Any experts in lip reading who can tell what word he says as he walks away? Looks like a 5 letter one to me?

A Tory majority is a prospect that should terrorise most ordinary hard working people and not just those in the public services.

It is unbelievable how the Conservatives have not been dragged over the coals about where they are going to find the £12 Billion in cuts from as they just keep deflecting the question with the old "throw a dead cat on the table " routine which has no doubt been drummed into them by advisor Lynton Crosby.

They knew they could not afford to tell the public the truth about the cuts so they deliberately stoked up a fear of SNP controlling a Labour minority Govt just to distract attention and since they are never going to win by inspiring the population they just use that tried and tested other method of trying to scare us all into voting for them by default.

I just hope enough people see through their tactics ,maybe they should watch this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcVFHC8hwpc

Laughing at the american election expert on The Sunday Politics. Just tried to tell someone who has known Ed Miliband for 20 years that he's a fraud and has stolen Obama's speeches. I cringe every time an American talks about the GE because I'm not sure they really understand any of it.

...including Nate Silver who got the 2010 general election so wrong when he predicted 101 dalmatians/Lib Dem MPs/wisents/whatever.

In other news, last night the Financial Times revealed that David Cameron and Nick Clegg are preparing for talks on a new Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition within hours of Thursday’s general election, if the Tories win the most seats in a hung parliament and that the latest seat projection forecast compiled for the Financial Times gives the Conservatives 274, Labour 270, SNP 54 and the Liberal Democrats at 26.

Ben Page, the boss of pollsters Ipsos MORI has gone on the record of what he thinks the outcome of Thursday's election will be:

...my predictions in order of likelihood: most likely a hung parliament or coalition of some kind, closely followed by either a small Labour majority or an equally small Conservative majority. Given how close the parties are, the unknown performance of Ukip in key marginals, the effect of incumbency on Lib Dem losses, the final size of SNP surge and so on, to be more precise is simply foolish! Professor Tetlock, who found that forecasts by experts were only slightly better than throwing dice, weighs heavily upon me!

I would agree with him in that last comment because there are so many variables in this election that could influence things not least because of increased support for the smaller parties such as UKIP, Plaid and the SNP.

Russell Brand has come out and urged voters to vote for the Labpur Party
...and here's the news:
We have to stop the Conservative party, he says.

He says he would not tell the Scottish what to do.

In Brighton, you should vote for Caroline Lucas.

"But anywhere else, you’ve got to vote Labour."

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/...os-second-vote
^^^ He missed out Plaid Cymru!

Or he saw Leanne's performances in the debates...

Note that he's also only backing Lucas, not any other Green candidates and not Natalie Bennett.

Hope these Labour supporting celebrities will still be paying HMRC the extra tax they seem willing to pay under Labour if the Conservatives are in power

Thing is, the Tories won't increase taxes and certainly not for their rich chums and funders,
It's not just the wealthy Labour supporting celebrities who would have no problem with paying more in taxes if it meant a secure NHS and a welfare system fit for purpose quite a lot of very poor Labour supporting ordinary folk like myself would have no problem paying a bit extra in taxes if it meant protecting the weakest and most vulnerable members of society instead of blaming and attacking them like the Tories and many of their supporters do,
there have been several polls which show this to be true,

https://yougov.co.uk/news/2014/01/28...pport-50p-tax/

Broad support for 50p tax

61% support increasing the top rate of tax to 50p – and while people tend to think it will bring in more money, 40% say it should be brought in regardless
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2...-fund-nhs-poll

Half of voters happy to pay more tax to fund NHS – poll

Almost half of voters say they would be happy to pay more income tax as long as the money went directly to the NHS, which is facing a £30bn gap in its finances by 2020.

Polling firm ComRes found that 49% of people would be prepared to pay more tax to help fund the health service, one in three (33%) people said they would not be ready to do so, and 18% did not know either way.

However, if only the views of those who expressed an opinion are considered, as many as 60% of people are willing to pay more tax to help the NHS providing its wide range of services; 40% are not.

The public's willingness to pay extra tax to help the NHS has reached its highest level in over a decade amid growing concern about hospitals slipping into the red, waiting lists lengthening and the service becoming unsustainable.
I have always thought that the Tories seem to have a very poor opinion of the ordinary people of this country and seem to believe that everyone is as obsessed with personal greed as they are.

New!

A close confidante of the deputy prime minister said earlier this morning that David Cameron had told Mr Clegg he didn’t think he could win a majority.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...-10223706.html

David Cameron 'tells Nick Clegg he can't win election' – live. Coalition at war after Liberal Democrat peer claims Prime Minister said he would not win a majority.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/gene...r-pledges.html

I have no doubt that leak was deliberate so as to cause upset and distraction in the Conservative campaign.
