Currently salivating over one of these, but 'm in a quandary about the various options.

I think I want an LTE as I will carry it out and about a lot and I'm slightly concerned about the issue of security over public-Wi-Fi. Of course tethering is an option, but it seems fiddly and I also like the idea of having the option if I need it. Am I being daft? Apart form the obvious are there any other features that the LTE Tab S has that is lacking on the Wi-Fi version? I heard something about GPS being lacking on Wi-Fi only tablets but this was some time ago.

What are the disadvantages and advantages of getting it on contract? I'm wary of the tie of long contracts and a terrible experience with Virgin Mobile has only reinforced that. However given that I want to buy a smartphone SIM-free it would be a financial boon to buy the Tab S on contract. Are there any practical advantages to a SIM-Free Tablet? Are the contract Tabs infected with operator firmware? Is the updating experience different to the SIM free Tabs S.

What are people's opinions of going for either the 8.4 or 10.1? The thing is so absurdly light that weight doesn't seem to be an issue.

I was going to get the Note 4 handset partly because I use maps a hell of a lot in London and elsewhere while on foot and the larger obviously the better. It did strike me that an 8.4 might be usable on the go in the same way as a phone. However its very noticeable that I almost never see people walking out and about reading mini-tablets in the way they use phones on the street in cities and towns. Is this something to do with the security aspect of using something so much larger, noticeable and therefore presumably more nickable?

Any other advantages and disadvantages? Do you regret making any of the above choices or can you recommend the choice you made?

Thanks in advance.
