If Thunderbirds does well then ITV are going to look like right numpties. Ok so its commissioned by CITV, but at least the main ITV channel should be airing rpt's somewhere during the day. Nope rpt's of YBF and Jeremy Kyle re better apparently.

I can't imagine thunderbirds doing that well on ITV anyway, is it really going to attract the wide audience away from Pointless Celebrities?

They could then decide to air it on ITV at a later date, as the audiences will be different there is no rule to say any ITV showings have to be in line with CITV showings. If it's like most kids shows it'll be shown on rotation every week for the next 10 years anyway.

I guess this discussion is a bit like asking why 5 do not slot Thomas the Tank Engine in between episodes of NCIS. Though heaven knows it is better than some of the other tosh they air.

The real reason why it seems odd to discover that ITV are basically just showing a one off this Saturday is the very considerable promotion that they are (and have been for 4 months now) putting into Thunderbirds on ITV.

This is on a scale that at least equals the one given to Broadchurch. To my eyes it looks bigger. It just seems incongruous to be backing up what in essence is the Easter Saturday children's movie. Particularly given that they were promoting this Easter movie before Christmas.

Was this always planned like that? Or have ITV changed their minds and decided that Thunderbirds is just too immature a show for their channel and that it might look a bit childish set alongside their other output such as Harry Hill running around dressed as a chicken annoying a would be singer and some supposedly hypnotised people dashing across screen screaming that they are starkers and need to marry Philip Schofield.

BBC News Channel will be the better option during that advert break

The Thunder Birds were a pair of overweight strippers who used to perform in the local pubs in my area years ago.

Carry on.

My big issue with the Thunderbirds scheduling is.it isn't as though they have anything better to rate in the slot. You've Been Framed! is hardly a behemoth and the shows which run before it tend to be repeats or ancient films. The only potential issue I can see is that Thunderbirds embarrasses itself viewing figure wise so the hype drains away quickly - but if they're concerned about that why give it an ITV run out at all?

World Wrestling Entertainment had 142 different worldwide trends on twitter on Sunday, a new record, including 10 separate number 1 worldwide trends.

Please be aware this stat will be thrown in the face of the next person who implies twitter means anything on this thread.

Yes, indeed!

Plus an hours build up, unless of course your prefer Kay Burley and Co on Sky.

Is it just me or is MasterChef rating a lot better than usual this series?

5.53m (27.3%) tuned into the latest episode at 8pm last night on BBC One.

Channel 4's fast turnaround doc How Safe Are Our Planes? managed 0.99m / 4.9% (exc. +1) opposite MasterChef, but it was no match for C5's Nightmare Neighbour Next Door, which began a new series with a strong 1.41m / 7.0% (exc. +1).

Definitely. It's usually a 4.5m show on Wednesdays and Thursdays I think? It's doing really well. I remember a few years back they moved it to 9pm, I think so it could perhaps break out but it didn't really improve at all, but this series seems to be breaking out a bit. That's a very impressive rating, it normally only does that well for the final. After years they seem to have finally perfected the format and it's paying off.

Plus Big Star's Little Star is hardly particularly tough competition. The way it is being tossed around the schedule in the next couple of weeks might halt the momentum a bit though.

Meanwhile at 9pm BBC Two's Strangeways documentary also brought in 1.41m, representing a 6.9% share. It beat C5's OAPs Behaving Badly (0.97m/4.7%) but trailed C4's 24 Hours in A&E (1.73m/8.4%).

On multichannel, BBC Three's Pretty Woman repeat pulled in an impressive 0.85m (4.6%).

Not bad for a show in its 11th series and that excludes the various spinoffs.

Pity that whilst the format has been tightened up successfully, the scheduling hasn't.

Masterchef is better this year that's why. The initial rounds have been a bit of a mess since moving to BBC1. At last it's sorted and viewers aren't just dipping in and out. One series a couple of years ago they tried an X Factor type selection. Other times it was two recorded 30 min shows shown as one hour episode.

The promotion for Thunderbirds is confusing. On the one hand they are going all out for it, and then the next, giving it a 'could do better' slot on ITV just for the launch.

I thought that was quite low for masterchef, was expecting about 8m

Using what logic or reasoning?

One could be cynical and perhaps think that the promotion, aimed at adults, is for all the merchandising that will be on its way before Xmas.

When I think about all the money, as a parent, that I've spent on the original Thunderbirds toys/Transformers/ Turtles/Bucky O'Hare and probably many more, the promotion is probably well worth it.

I think that was the first year they moved from BBC2 to 1 - it was a real mess and the ratings were not a lot higher than they had been on 2. As others have said they've really found a watchable and fair format this year, but we'll see how that goes as they move into the finals.

We're running a bit behind with it but it's doing well. Instead of falling into a "chop and change for change sake" trap the changes it has made are almost akin to refining and fine tuning a dish to be served up on the show! Add a little more spice here... take away a little sharpness there.... add in a little more sweetness here... As if they are trying to create the perfect dish! And you know what - so far it's working and it seems viewers are enjoying it.
