With reference to BBC managememnt and EastEnders, that certainly used to be the case, but many of these old fossils have retired from the corporation and this is not the case now! EastEnders is a vital part of the schedule for BBC One. I can see many on here cringing with despair.

EastEnders may have its champions within management but they are few and far between, you are wrong with your old fossils remark, if anything it's the seasoned management that has a desire to hang on to EE while the new younger management wants a change. If any more old fossils retire then EE will have no one to cheer for them within the BBC.
EE in my opinion stopped being a vital part of the schedule some years back, the lack of promotion, channel changes ect have had a detrimental effect on the show, its not water cooler tv anymore, saying that the same can be said for ITV and Corrie, ITV apparently are not concerned about the mess Corrie is in, management in London don't appear to support the show and those that do are few and far between, new brooms coming into ITV appear to have no interest in Corrie because if they did Blackburn would have been sacked before now. The only difference is that Corrie is still a pivotal anchor in their prime time schedule as it can still command higher advert rates.
We should be happy that soap ratings are decreasing because it means viewers are trying new programming/alternatives. Less reliance on soaps by broadcasters could be a win for them and a win for the viewer.
