For the very last episode with Clarkson, Hammond and May, I expected a lot more, especially with all the publicity. I'm sure it'll timeshift brilliantly though.

Im up to episode 5, and have to got to say having had a stab at it, its a rewarding compelling escapist watch. The fact that its truly bombed is very sad.

It was the LAST EVER Top Gear with Clarkson. How is it not disappointing ?

That said, there was something oddly low key about the whole thing. I guess the BBC had no incentive to ensure it was massively successful. By comparison when Top Gear 2.0 launches you won't hear the end of it across BBC TV and radio, so noisy will the push be.

On a warm evening then 5.4m isn't a disaster but below expectations

Perhaps some viewers couldn't bring themselves to watch or couldn't see the point - ie it was one for mourning die hards rather than casuals? .

I imagine it will consolidate to around 8m.

Any figures for the Nic Roeg doc on BBCFour? And Walkabout?

Top Gear is an ok rating, saying it should have done better because its the last in the current format, rather ignores the fact there is a reason its the last in the current format for a reason, its not a end people are celebrating, or even just 1 or 2 of the presenters leaving for pastures new.

JSaMN on the other end, I am glad it stayed above 1 million, true they failed to restore English magic, but its been a good watch, and im dissapointed by its ratings

Ouch for Strange and Norrell. Meh for Top Gear, actually expected 2m more. Most likely hit Humans and BB hard even though it only clashed for 15 mins.

Elsewhere last night, BBC Two import Odyssey - which due to Top Gear shared a junction with no other major channel of 9:15pm - started solidly enough with 1.77m (8.8%).

It was however beaten by C4's sci-fi thriller Humans, which hit a series low of 2.06m (9.1%) and ITV's Black Work, starring the in demand Sheridan Smith, which continued with 4.53m (20.0%) excluding HD.

Big Brother rounded off the 9pm slot for Channel 5 with 1.09m (4.8%).

Poor for Humans, but it should have a decent catchup audience.

Top Gear - well it's the end of a particular era for the show again. I would have thought that the Trio would have announced their ITV venture if there was a deal on the table straight after the BBC Two showing. I know there were various reports over the weekend which stated that the two shows were going to clash - but some like the Daily Mail failed to include the bit which stated that no deal with ITV had yet been made. The ratings for Top Gear appear to be inline with the previous series.

As expected for Humans. I reckon it got a big +1.
Very sturdy for BB exc +1. Looking like 1.2m again. I genuinely thought it would fall to 1m.

nice for Black Work.

Another revelation from last night's numbers...Gogglebox works quite well on repeat !

Almost as baffling as families gathering round to watch 7 year old episodes of Harry Hill's TV Burp on GOLD.

Next week will be absolutely crucial. If it falls by more than about 0.2m again, then I think we know what's coming.

The main 9pm showing has lost 1.4m viewers in just two weeks. Indian Summers by comparison lost 1.1m over the same period, and The Mill lost 0.5m across the equivalent period two summers ago, albeith both from lower starting bases. Both went on to be flops.

You can argue the case about increased competiton until the cow's come home but Sunday nights are incredibly competitive and always will be, even in the summer. C4 had it their own way for the launch - opposite one of the biggest flops in BBC One's history and nothing major on ITV - now Humans has got to prove it can stand on its own two feet opposite a wide range of quality rival programming.

There are no hiding places on Sundays at 9pm - it's a brutal slot like Mondays at 9pm - as the nation's favourite BBC One has just found out...

Humans does feel like it's treading water. Very little has moved on in three hours. Good job the music is so good - Arguably makes it seem better than it is.

Series high for Big Brother at 1.40m

2.64m for Humans.

Most watched episode since the launch, you mean?

Utterly baffled by that rating though, I must admit. It was a pretty ordinary episode I thought, if anything one of the worst they've put out in the past couple of weeks.
