That picture from Corrie in the article made me laugh out loud!

Low ratings all round, the heat really is taking its toll. This week could be very painful.

Also I love Vicious and wish it would rate better. Sadly I suspect ITV won't give it a third run (which is a shame given that it was envisaged as a three series show). So unless some sort of co-production with PBS (on which it does fairly well I gather) is arranged I suspect this might be it for it, which is a real shame.

I don't see anyone going back to the soaps these days and Wimbledon 2Day needs to be binned.

Down a fraction (-0.03m inc +1) for Vicious to a new all-time overnight low (2.24m/11.4% inc +1) but the share is up +0.3 and it has broadly stabilised at least.

BBC3 will go online. No BBC1+1 channel.

BBC3 confirmed dead

As is BBC1+1. So the aggregation issue continues!

Shame about BBC Three but am absolutely delighted the BBC One+1 proposals were rejected.

Certainly would have hurt the commercial channels. And in this day and age, it's not needed.

A real shame about BBC3. Had hoped the proposals would have been rejected. If nothing else it would have been a blow to Danny Cohen's ego.

Fairly indifferent about BBC1+1. On the one hand it would have got rid of the +1 arguments, on the other as Dancc pointed out it could have negatively impacted on the commercial channels.

Some people like Vicious but its still a flop whatever they say.

Well Ofcom themselves concluded BBC One+1 would take viewers away from ITV and Channel 5 in particular and do nothing to attract new younger viewers. That is spot on IMHO.

Common sense from Ofcom? First time for everything I suppose.

If its not needed on BBC1 why is it needed on the commercial channels?

Commercial channels do what they have to do to shore up share in an incredibly competitive market.

Given it's unique funding setup, it's not the BBC's place to be overly ratings driven and aggressive, and running a second version of their most popular channel, minus adverts of course, would only serve to take viewers away from commercial channels and not tackle the issue of rehousing BBC Three viewers remotely.

It has quite rightly been shot down for these reasons.

Sad but not really surprised by this news. Although it's a fair assessment, this issue was the perfect opportunity for the Trust to distance itself from the Executive. And hey presto that's what has happened.

Haha exactly.

They might even think about ditching that archaic 40 minute primetime rule next...oh who am I kidding, we've had our year's full of common sense from them now!

It is Summer, in the Autumn/Winter the Soaps will be up again. The low ratings for soaps happen every summer

I wonder what will happen to EPG number 7 on Freeview? Could BBC News move up? Can't think of anything else they could do with it if BBC One+1 isn't happening.

Has anyone seen how well the Friday night repeats have been doing? I suspect combined it's done well enough to warrant a third series. The writer wanted to do three in total I read.

1.25m for BB so still doing better than expected. I do imagine if a certain someone goes on Friday, we will see a decline. LI doing above half a million is showing it's consistency.

The met climbing is great.

Soaps really struggling. The rest of the week will be terrible due to the weather. I can see EE under 5m on Thursday and Friday. Great for C4.

So far it seems only the soaps are struggling with the weather (being earlier obviously the cause) but other channels are holding up better than I thought.

They put Calum Best in yesterday from the original Love Island, so that might have something to do with the boost. Interesting as well that it moved to 10pm (to avoid BB?).

3/3 times now? He's been in all three series.

Bit like McCririck going into the BB house for a third time then.

Both LI and BB having to use celebs to boost ratings for the civilian versions tells a story.

Well I disagree. The only reason it has been shot down is because the Trust are scared of the Government. That is not a good place for the BBC to be not just for their sake but for all our sakes.

Emmerdale's share was a lowly 28% (exc +1) though which can't be weather-related. Wimbledon might have stolen a few viewers?

Even though you can't seem to explain why BBC One+1 is apparently needed when we've coped perfectly okay without it for so long, at a time when iPlayer usage is increasing all the while. Interesting.

We're never going to have a level playing field. The idea that BBC One+1 achieves that is utter lunacy. The BBC are in an incredibly privileged position already, not like the commercial channels who are having to fight all the while to just maintain share, let alone increase it.

The first priority post BBC Three must surely be ensuring that young viewers are adequately catered for elsewhere, whether that be via the new online BBC Three or a broader programming slate on both BBC One and BBC Two.

Ratings - at any cost - is not what the BBC should be concentrating on right now, and if they carry on like that they'll have every reason to fear the Government.

For all our sakes? It's not the health service Yorkie!

Interesting times lie ahead for the BBC. I really don't think BBC1+1 is necessary for anyone going forwards (maybe except the Ratings Thread where it would settle arguments ).
