Although Viacom have signed a three year deal for BB with Endemol and I doubt even the show's biggest fans would say this year has been a hit, with some shows falling below a million and this series reckoned to the weakest ever. I have a feeling BB is going to be a millstone round the neck for Channel 5, in the same way Home and Away is.

Strictly does as that usually starts in September, the BBC cant possibly be milking it and extending the run can they? Not the BBC surely?

X Factor occasionally starts back in August depending on the format of auditions, and the rugby may be the reason this time.

Bear in mind Bank Holiday Monday isn't until the 31st August this year, so anything that starts in August will even firmly be seen as being in the summer. I wonder if the usual daytime shows will return Tuesday 1st or wait until the following Monday.

Also it looks like The Apprentice is staying as an autumn show, as that would have appeared by now otherwise and isn't listed for Autumn.

Autumn looks jam packed for both channels and there will be many clashes and many claims here of bad scheduling killing off a show.

Yes Bake Off is a summer show, silly me for forgetting. It's usually because I end up realising that they have been recorded and start watching a little late.

It does look like a good Autumn for a change on tv, as does Christmas (yes I know that its only July). Anyone would think that the BBC were trying to make a point with lots of new shows "look at what we are doing" and ITV finally realising that money lies in returnable drama that is more than 3 parts.

Well indeed and it shows how all those endless posts singling out the soaps and saying they are not long for this world and are going to be moved to day times are so worthless when it isn't just the soaps that have fallen, everything else has as well by equivalent amounts.

I see BBC1 are resorting to a Death in Paradise repeat tonight and last night dug out the Mrs Brown repeats again. Summer is well and truly here.

Why are BBC One airing Death In Paradise repeats when my tv guide says that the Motorway Cops on Thursday at 10:45 is new? Surely it makes more sense to air M Cops at 9 for a couple of weeks.

I'd rather it was used as prime time filler than repeats of New Tricks and Death In Paradise. Mrs. Brown has also been repeated to death. The Syndicate and Black Work have shown that the viewers are there.

And mine, unless the Queen dies, England are in a World Cup semi final, or there's another Olympics in London, ratings of the sort I grew up with are unlikely. Even this year the BGT final getting 12 million would have been unremarkable 30 years ago, as even an average sitcom could get that. The four channel world is dead and BBC One, the nation's biggest channel, hovers around 20 per cent for most of the year. Those that tend to watch the traditional channels tend to be older, as for most of their lives they knew nothing else, and the old " are you BBC or ITV" arguments are largely dead.

Does it look like a good autumn. I see a lot pf people saying this but it looks like the same old stuff to me. We will probably get a couple of new dramas but other than that DA/XF/Doc Martin against the usual SCD/Pointless/Apprentice.
Just because a lot of new drama is in the pipeline on both sides I am not expecting a lot of that to hit the screens before Xmas. Or am I wrong?

That is actually quite interesting - especially considering that (Hayley's funeral) aired in January and Deirdre's funeral aired in July. Granted that was a Friday night but still the difference is quite minor.

Corrie is up 0.8m and 1.2m versus last Monday (those comparisons include +1). Overall, that's not a bad result considering the time of year. It would have been nice to see an 8m overnight but both episodes should consolidate quite well. The second episode will be close to 9m with +1.

It certainly shows that it's not all doom and gloom for the soaps, and also proves that the iconic long term characters can pull viewers back in who have previously stopped watching. They need to do a better job of building the younger characters up to that sort of level. I hope Wednesday's rating is high too because it carries on with the memories of Deirdre and Peter returns. Seeing as Peter was in the trailer and those tuning in on Monday for him won't have seen him, that should hopefully mean they watch tomorrow too.

Well I don't know for BBC1, but ITV will have Jekyll and Hyde starting in October, Churchill's Secret, Peter & Wendy, The Sound of Music from the recently announced.

Oh and new BBC1 Police drama 'Cuffs' finishes filming on the 24th July and will broadcast mid September.

I agree they will. Although that wasn't an inevitability with EE 30th. They failed to produce an engaging aftermath. That's why viewers switched off so quickly.

It's like this Sound of Music stuff, it's only because the BBC had success with the Lloyd Webber show related to it, that they're interested.

Quite interesting to see 2 months after it debuted, EastEnders went from 17 million down to 9 million by some weeks in April 1985. By April 1986 it was over 20 million and famously would be over 30 million later that year!
