Not sure what the soaps has to do with it, there would still be a 9pm slot, and probably one with a lower lead in if there were no soaps on Fridays.
Bear Grylls was said to be a poor fit as it was aiming at a younger audience so was said to be badly scheduled.
A travel doc with Griff Rhys Jones sounds to be to be older skewing, matching the audience available on Fridays, but apparently that is still a poor fit?
New Entertainment shows struggle to get going even on Saturdays, so would also be branded as poor scheduling and viewers aren't used to entertainment on Fridays.
Any new drama on a Friday is said to be being burnt off, any existing drama moved to Fridays is said to be heading for cancellation.
Piers Morgan doesn't do that well, Paul O'Grady never did that well either.
Bear in mind even BBC1 struggles on Fridays quite a lot of the year when HIGNFY isn't on.
