Well, Pointless Celebrities and Casualty won their slots for the BBC, so I don't think it was "totally abysmal". I'm pretty sure if it were the other way around and itv didn't have a high-rating crowd pleaser but still had a couple of modest-rating yet slot-winning shows on a Saturday night, there would be a good deal of back-slapping for itv on here.

Bake Off?

Did something overtake it in the end? I must have forgotten that, I apologise. But regardless, still a big rater and probably the most interesting set of ratings that'll happen this year in terms of whether a programme builds on its previous success or has now peaked.

No you are right Zac it was Bake Off. Will be interesting to see if this years final can surpass last years rating.

Why on earth would we do that?

Same old crap that gets trotted out by the XF machine every single Springtime, why oh why won't they realise that this sort of thing puts people off the show

I expect for the next 7 weeks it'll be like this

18:55 Pointless Celebrities
19:45 Atlantis
20:30 National Lottery: In it to win it
21:20 Casualty
22:10 BBC News

and then it'll probably change to something like this

19:10 Pointless Celebrities
20:00 National Lottery
20:50 Casualty
21:40 Mrs Brown's Boys (repeat)
22:10 BBC News

Unless there is a new show coming along that I've forgotten about

Next Saturday it's the FA Cup semi-final and no Pointless

There's Emma Willis' Games how so I'd think that'll take Pointless Celebs slot in summer- I think they've given Atlantis a tough time to justify cancelling it, if they'd had it inheriting the voice lead in it may have not disgraced itself- BBC do need something for Q2 next year though- It looks pretty bare since shifting TVUK

So it didn't rate higher than Strictly so far? Thanks for clearing that up!

Spring/Summer has been weak on BBC1 without The Voice and Doctor Who. How Prized Apart with Emma Willis and Reggie Yates performs remains to be seen.

That prediction lasted long They also have the FA Cup final on May 30th, which will at least nudge into primetime and possibly go quite far into primetime should the match not be finished in 90 minutes.

The Thursday EastEnders murderer reveal and flashback episode later that night both cleared 10m easily. They did better than the fully live episode as I expected them to do.

The point was that essentially it outrated all regular episodes. The final is obviously going to be higher and the Blackpool week was a special week and the ratings for it were more than half a million above all the other episodes. Regular Strictly was doing mid-9s last Autumn, so it outdid that.

I think the idea is that the judge says they are quitting and it's their own decision just in case they aren't invited back. Hopefully Louis won't return as he drags the show down and the only way to truly refresh the show involves getting rid if him.

Launch episodes are usually big anyway. I put that up there with special editions of shows. Look at the launch ratings for I'm A Celebrity, always big. There's a case to be made for launch episodes not being regular episodes.

Personally I think special episodes are ones outside a series like at Christmas. But that's just me.
