Indeed I see this ending up in one of those tedious 'blame it on the schedulers' moans that seems to be the reason for any programme that rates lower than hoped and doesn't air on a Sunday or Monday at 9pm.”
I don't think Thunderbirds would have rated very well regardless of where they'd have put it. I think the original series' appeal in recent years has been based entirely on nostalgia, and even that hasn't been on telly for years. I don't think Gerry Anderson's stuff has dated very well at all. Then it looks like it's going to be absolutely a kids show as well. People slag off RTD for soapifying Doctor Who but it's clear it meant it appealed to a far wider audience that way. I think the whole concept of Thunderbirds is going to limit its appeal.

Personally, I'd leave Leary in the job for the final two series on the contract, then maybe look at a replacement if the show gets another three-year contract after that.”
I think it's right Dermot has gone, I think he's been on it too long and I don't think it's done him any good. Before he did it he seemed to be quite an interesting, quirky presenter and I think doing this brute of a show for so long has knocked a lot of the subtlety out of him. I think on the one hand you've got the credible DJ who supports new music and then you've got the host of the show that seems in many people's eyes seems to emphasise the vulgar and cynical nature of the music industry. I think that's been an awkward combination for a while.
It reminds me a bit of what Madonna said about David Letterman, he used to be cool but now he just sucks up to people. And hosting The X Factor seems a bit of a thankless job anyway, nobody remembers you do it and a lot of it seems to involve firefighting. It also reminds me of what Wogan said when he said he was stopping doing Come Dancing, people weren't surprised he was leaving because they forgot he was actually presenting it in the first place.
