Has to be said that if around a 33% share is only giving EE 6.11m and ED 5.4m in April then the soaps ratings are going to look terrible by August.

Equivalent day last year EE had a 33.8% share but 6.59m.

Thanks Bushmills.

How did BBC Breakfast do in comparison?

ITV have said a 15% share is the minimum GMB needs to be viable.I can't really see Piers sticking with the show as some kind of saviour.I know he likes to go on about his CNN time but in reality it wasn't really successful at all.

We could see some low figures in the height of the summer. If the newspapers have a quiet day we could see them comparing an Eastenders rating of sub 5 million to the 10 million anniversary episode.

However the likely rainbow coalition will likely keep such things off the front pages.

Barb should be about ready to include the iplayer phablet stats into their figures soon, along with the removal of the EE omnibus should make the consolidated ratings look a little better.

ABC World News Tonight beat NBC Nightly News last week for the second week running, the first time in over six years. With the enforced absence of Brian Williams ABC continue to pull ahead.

ABC 8.250 million average
NBC 8.022 m
CBS 6.825 m

It was the hottest day of the year yesterday and ED only lost about 100k yoy (though they gained that back with a higher +1) and increased in share from last year.

Ouch, I knew he would be a turn off for many.

Next week's schedule confuses me. Why is BBC2 moving the final Back In Time For Dinner to 9pm to accommodate a new Alex Polizzi show? ”

I wonder if it's because on the Monday Alex Polizzi's new show (Chefs On Trial) starts at 8pm - thus avoiding a 9pm clash with Masterchef (on BBC1). So what they have done is keep Alex Polizzi at 8pm Mon-Thur rather than move it on the Tue. to 9pm (and Back In Time at 8pm).

Edit to add: Bizarrely though Chefs on Trial DOES clash with Masterchef - both going out at 8pm on Wed & Thur - surely that's poor scheduling by the BBC?!!

BIB: thanks to your abbreviation of it, I've just "got" the pun in that show 's title! Only taken me five weeks...

Quite clever really

Most state schools where I live have started again; independent schools return next Monday. Not sure if this is the trend nationwide, however.

Now that explains why there appeared to be a gaggle of school age children on the train this morning, with a weary looking mother.

I guess grumbling under my breath about them being in school was incorrect

Nothing much ever seems to affect Breakfast, it has a very loyal audience. If there is a big overnight news story it will add viewers. It is performing well at weekends too when of course there is no competition from ITV and Sky have their B team on.

Breakfast has the B team on a few days of the working week aswell, as the presenters don't do 5 days, or even 4 in some cases.

Indeed. And it's anyone's guess which BBC journalists they get to front the show on Sundays. It's incredibly resilient, in spite of the carousel of presenters - I imagine this is why Susanna Reid's departure last year didn't have much of an effect at all.

All the main four in theory work 3 days each. Sunday's is then done by anyone who happens to be walking past out of a pot of about 10 people. Carol Kirkwood is the hardest working on the show, working 5 days a week most weeks.

Plus Carol does the Victoria Derbyshire show on the BBC News Channel.
