But relevant if you are saying that ratings are ok because they are not down on last week.

MasterChef is for foodies with an element of competition, it does well to get 5 million+ viewers. I can't really watch it due to the judges but it does pull people in. The final ought nudge 5.5m on Friday even with a CS clash.

Well, not really, The Impressions Show began in the post-Casualty slot and didn't do very well, with the second series in a post-10pm slot. Dead Ringers was on BBC2. McGowan started after 10pm as well and HIGNFY of course started on BBC2 and didn't move to 9pm on BBC1 for a decade. None of them were put out at 9pm for their very first episode, and on ITV which has a very conservative audience to boot. And in addition, of course, the fact HIGNFY is on at 9pm in the same week is another problem because it means we get all the same jokes because there's only about half a dozen writers of topical comedy in the country.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that next Friday's 'stEnders is an extended edition running until 8.35. This thread is slacking, we should have had at least ten posts about BBC1 dirty tricks screwing over Corrie. It also means we get A Grand Day Out to fill the slot up until HIGNFY which I'd be fascinated to see the rating for given its last outing at Christmas was at three o'clock in the afternoon. That's except for Wales who are doing their election debate that night with HIGNFY at 9.30. Also next week BBC Scotland are doing an hour-long Reporting Scotland until 7.30 every night. Last time they did that in the referendum they moved The One Show to a late night slot, but this time they're just dropping it completely.

I've known this for a few weeks so it's not like the BBC are doing it at last minute. Nothing stopping ITV airing Corrie from 8:35 and it would still be over by 9.

I think the soaps are doing fine tbh.
All the soaps are lower (Including Daytime ones like Doctors) simply because of the weather. The South at least has been very warm and sunny for the past few weeks
I understand that is to change tomorrow for most though. (It's fairly warm tonight but not as Hot)

Bit worried for Emmerdale's ratings at 8pm against Masterchef - last time it was against it it only got 5.05m, and that was a big episode.

Or people even owning more then one TV so they can watch or play what they want.

It's here! It's actually here! Somewhere in the depths of the BBC they've found the Car Share tapes and now it graces the world... but how will it rate? BBC One and ITV go head to head with dramas as The C Word and Home Fires battle it out; which show will win? Inspector George Gently returns on Wednesday so how will it do and will it dent Newzoids further? The election is slogging to a close but will the Question Time special poll high? Nick and Margaret don't really care... they're playing around on trains! Will the show keep you on the right track to win the week?

That's not what I said though is it. People seemed shocked at the ratings but they were no lower than recent episodes is my point.

Why is there a programme about chefs on BBC1 and a programme about chefs on BBC2 ?

Very poor Wednesday for ITV, but another case of bad scheduling and un-OAP pulling programming screw over the schedule.

And what would make BBC1 Secret Britain do so much better than ITV's The Wonder of Britain?

Wonder of Britain had less polarising opposition.

They were on at the same time tonight ! I thought BBC2's remit was to provide something that was different from BBC1 ? Who co-ordinates the schedules as 1 is always planned before 2 ?

That's just ridiculous! Plus Chefs On Trial is poor and they have it for FOUR weeks! Stupid commission, stupid scheduling!

Also after it finished you could see Alex Polizzi again at 9pm on Channel 5!

I wondered that too but it turns out that the BBC program is a Countryfile spin off so that is the answer.

Or it could just be awful programming from ITV and viewers deciding not to watch rubbish dished out by the leading commercial channel.

I don't think poor scheduling rather than poor programming is partly to blame. Newzoids and The Delivery Man are thrown in at the deep end. Also maybe they're not suited to primetime or ITV?

Last night at 9pm:

Crimewatch - 3.6m
The Island - 2.5m
W1A - 1.5m

Masterchef (5m) beat Emmerdale (4.7m) in the head-to-head battle, although ED also had 5m when +1 is included.

Overall, a bad night for ITV with Double Decker Driving School getting 2m and Ice Rink On The Estate 1.4m (no uplift for either show with +1). ITV News at Ten had a miserable 1.2m, against 4.4m for BBC News.

They are definitely top threes.

But it only covers programmes that started between 7pm and 10:59pm, which I guess is their definition of peak.

Also it strips out programmes that are 15 minutes or less in duration.

Horrendous night for ITV. Looking at their schedule, it's all a bit of a disaster right now. The choice of programmes, choice of slots for programmes, branding, advertising and coherence of schedule is all really lacking right now and it is showing in the ratings. Mondays are fine but every other night of the week has at least one major issue right now. Even Saturday and Sunday do thanks to Play To The Whistle and Celebrity Squares. It has been a really poor year for them with only a few bright spots.

Bushmills, you wouldn't happen to know how Pointless and Paul O'Grady did would you?
