Hudl2 to tv
Martintea
28-03-2015
In the past I've simply connected the Hudl to my TV(a Sony Bravia),selected appropriate HDMI input on the telly, gone into HDMI settings on the Hudl2 and been able to watch,in my case Eurosport in glorious HD.But the last few weeks its taken ages to 'connect'.Today I gave up after 15 minutes of disconnecting, reconnecting and plugged the laptop in instead which works fine.
As the HDMI output on the Hudl was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place, has anyone had the same problem/got a cure.?

So,NOBODY is having trouble connecting their Hudl2 to a telly then.Just me.How unlucky am I.?

Just checked and my Hudl 1 continues to connect successfully to my Samsung TV as it has done for the past two years.

You could try a different cable (unlikely I know to have a spare micro to standard HDMI to hand) or try it with a different (non Sony) TV. Sony have a rep of having their own unique take on HDMI handshaking.

I suppose I should admit my HDMI lead is a cheap one,but would that make a difference. It has worked fine until recently. Also, having looked at Tesco tech support pages, the Hudl 1 has a "turn HDMI on" option, the Hudl 2 doesn't.

It could if you continually plug and unplug the lead. This could damage the socket on the Hudl, the plug on the end of the cable or even the cable itself. Depending on how heavy handed you are at plugging/unplugging. The most likely point of failure is usually the socket on the device as that can suffer the most stress as the plug is inserted/removed.

Why not buy a miracast or chromecast dongle which plugs into TV HDMI port and do it wirelessly?

Can you do that with the Eurosport player, bloke at Tesco said it wouldn't work, and let's face it they wouldn't lose a sale if they can help it.

Its only occasionally I watch on the big screen,so it doesn't get plugged/unplugged on a particularly regular basis.

Glad you sorted it.

Incidentally, your TESCO guy was not entirely correct about using (I suspect) chromecast and Eurosport.

See and answer on android eurosport web player

"No chromecast No demand videos for lg smart TV and no Chromecast so have to use cast screen option on my phone to watch it on my Chromecast which is not great."

I mirror cast (to chromecast) lots of websites that do not have native casting, and I generally find the picture and sound is ok (not HD quality but normally around SD).

I do not see why a miracast dongle would not work - they are supposed to be specifically designed with HD in mind. The limitation is probably the power of your tablet. Other users may be able to advise as I do not have a miracast dongle to give you a definite answer.

Just don't buy a really really cheap one like I did.
They don't last very long

I prefer a wireless solution as I have had a tablet fail on the actual connection port. No hassle with cables, and you can use tablet from comfort of couch etc.

I can use my Hudl from the comfort of my couch connected with a long cable and never had a problem with the socket. I wonder sometimes how people manage to break them so easily?

Great...now NEITHER of my OTG cables work with the Hudl but they do with the Nexus 7.
Any ideas..anyone?
Getting a tad annoyed now.

Is that a Hudl1 or Hudl2 ?
The Hudl1 has a very fragile microUSB/charging port (the centre plastic pin which supports the conductors snaps off), the robustness of that on the Hudl2 is as yet unproven.
incidentally I have an HTC smartphone aged 3½ years which is on charge daily and shows no signs of the microUSB port weakening.

Mine doesn't. At least not in relation to the normal care of use this kind of socket merit.

If you are having problems with multple cables, it makes sense that its the Hudl that has the fault.
