just gone through the same process and ended up with a Samsung UE55HU7200.
the 4K argument is probably never going to get a solid answer, picture quality of upscaled HD is very much down to how got the HD source is to start with, some of Sky's output is a bit shaky, but comparing the picture with the Panasonic plasma it's replacing, I would say it's 50/50, the plasma deals better with high contrast and has less issues with fringing, but the LED wins on overall brightness and colour.
Smarthub works well, I am using the Plex app to access local media (DNLA is a bit clunky to put it mildly), and this works great, as do youtube/browsing/etc.
4K from Netflix is OK, and there are some other sources of native 4K stuff (like on the UHD pack Samsung bundle), the difference between HD and 4K of the same material is actually very noticeable, although with netflix it's very much bandwidth limited (they seem to use ~12-16Mbps).
Only downside to the Samsung appears to be that it will not handle Dolby D 5.1 inputs from any HDMI device, so whilst newer sky boxes can output DD5.1, the TV will just stay silent, this seems to be a problem on a lot of the current Samsung TV's judging by the Sky forums.
Yet to get a definitive answer out of Samsung.
