The explanation she gave at the Indiana con video(how best to write her out storyline wise) is different from what Moffat said,(she asked to stay)'


From her various answers Its obvious that she considers Smiths era her fav(companion, monster, ep etc) and highlight of her time on the show> she loves fairytale/impossibe girl.

PC constantly states her as his fav companion but she cites DT/Baker as her fav doctors, Moffat said 12 is 'clara's Doctor"(11 is Amys) But I dont think imo Coleman feels that way

anyone else feel she should have left and given 12/PC a companion whos more devoted to his doctor exclusively? JMO

She might have preferred working with Matt because he's more her age. If you saw the behind the scenes footage with Matt, Karen Gilan and Arthur Darvill, they were like a teen club - youngsters having fun making their fantasy drama.

And does your last comment refer to Clara dividing her time between the Doctor and Danny? Because now that Danny is dead I suspect the next series will have Clara travelling full-time with the Doctor giving series 9 a different feel to series 8.

As for a reason for her to stay - maybe her job hunting in the States (where a lot of young actors set their sights) wasn't proving to be particularly fruitful.

No, I meant that usually actress/actor companions say there own doctor is their fav, "My doctor" so to Speak

-Gillian says her doctor and Fav is Smith
-Piper says Tennant's her BF , Chris E= her doctor
-MGanns companion actress says he's her /fav doctor etc,

..and so on through years of companions and Doctors. 12 should be a companions fav -orite doctor as well. Hopefully it will be the next one.

Maybe Jenna wasn't so fond of Clara's storyline last series, where first she was keeping the Doctor and Danny a secret from each other and then she was blatantly lying to them. Maybe she felt that made Clara a less likeable character.

Maybe she'll be happier next series if it resorts back to the Doctor and Clara travelling through time and space having adventures together, as it was with her and Matt, without all the soap opera type stuff we had last year.

Bit in bold - Not exactly correct. Jenna is asked; If you could be a companion to any OTHER Doctor who would it be?' and her answer; Baker or DT. She didn't say they were her favourite Doctors.

Nope. I don't feel she should have left and certainly not for the reason you state. I'm over the moon Jenna has decided to stay, she's a brilliant actress. And I've heard (through the grape vine) that her working relationship with Peter is one of the reasons she decided to stay.

Now we see how easy it can be for someone in the public eye to be misquoted.

Let's face it - being the Doctor or his companion must be one of the best jobs to have if you're an actor** because there will be few jobs in the profession that will have as much shear variety; futuristic episodes, period drama, contemporary drama,. comical episodes, emotional episodes, scary episodes.......

I also get the impression that Peter is a nice guy and that if you're looking for a role that most reflects his personality it won't be the Doctor or Malcolm Tucker. It'll be Tristram Campbell, the Songs Of Praise producer he played in The Vicar Of Dibley.

As far a Smiths era being/not being her fav...all her fav things from her time on are FROM his era..so its a logical step to think his era is her fav, lol

I've always assumed her 'leavings' are all part of playing hardball over pay negotiations.

The show's making lots of money, and I'm sure Smith's money rose considerably after starting on a fraction of what Tennant got, which in turn was a huge increase on what he replaced Eccleston for.

If Clara is the impossible girl who was born to save the Doctor, around which everything seems to revolve, her character must be important to the show. So the actress playing her will want to see that reflected in her pay.

I also think Moffat revealing this is a bit unprofessional and almost borders on snide revenge for 'losing'. Either way, such people are only ever going to say glowing things about each other and heap shovels of sugary praise over everyone at the time. There'd be nothing of interest in all those autobiographies by older famous people if the praise was genuine.

With threads like this which speculate on the actors leaving or staying it must put a lot of unnecessary pressure on them.
She must be thinking "What, am I expected to leave or something?"

But the companion can only stay on if the show-runner wants them to stay on. If Moffett had so chosen, he could have killed Clara off when she stepped into the Doctor's timeline in The Name Of The Doctor (cos she was told it would kill her.)

Nobody at the BBC or on the Dr Who production team is going to force Moffett to keep Clara because a new companion would be cheaper (as you say, Jenna would have more negotiating power now) (unless the audition procedure is particularly expensive) and would provide a selling point for the new series. "Meet the Doctor's new companion" works better in promotion than "It's the Doctor and Clara - AGAIN!!"

I think both Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate were disappointed they only got one full series as the Doctor's main companion. RTD seemed to like working his way through companions. (although perhaps Catherine only got one series cos RTD thought she'd be too busy to commit to a second amnd maybe Martha got dropped because the opportunity arose to sign up Catherine as Donna for a full series. Billie Piper may have only got two series because Eccleston jumped ship after ine series and they needed some continuity and stability for the new audience.)

RTD had three female companions in 4 series. Moffett will have had 2 female companions in 5 series (although Moffett also had 1 male companion in Rory, although he was running alongside Amy).

I don't think Moffat was being snide just a rare case of being honest about the situation after the fact. Jenna contract was up he believed she was going and Jenna thought she would be too but then started to have doubts and ultimately wanted to stay, Moffat changed things so she could stay, I doubt there's sugar coating or him just saying nice things about her, he doesn't have to have her there, indeed he had already devised her exit and then a second time at x-mas, the character isn't crucial to the shows success companions are easily replaced, the simple fact is preferably he wanted Jenna and the character of Clara to continue but was not tied to this, once Jenna changed her mind and decided to stay (for her own reasons) Moffat was happy to comply.

But this slant is less juicy, so I must be naïve and its all about getting big pay checks and they all hate each other and that's why they continue to work on such a demanding show

Of course, but that's nothing to do with pay. Hammond and May only stayed on Top Gear because Clarkson and Wilman wanted them to. But that didn't stop them saying they were leaving when they were initially refused more money off the back of their successes and perceived value to the show. In the end, Wilman & Clarkson conceded and they signed another contract.

And them all great showbiz buddies, like Smashie & Nicey were back in the day!

What if Moffat has 'invested' moments in Clara which he wants to revisit later on, like he did with River and Amy? That's 'value' in the Character of Clara right there, which he'll lose if he gets rid of her and starts with a new companion. It may be better for him to pay Coleman more than lose his timey-wimey story arcs and back references.

But you have no evidence of that your just proposing things to fit your view on the matter but, and its a big fat but, if he did he would probably of used them in series 8 or the Christmas special as for the whole time he thought she was leaving, Jenna's staying was a last minute thing.

And?.. what you were speculating has no legs to stand on, and I was responding to your Moffat might of had things invested in the character that he didn't get to use and that's why he was keen to keep her (and you speculating she used this to wager for more money) I was using things we actually know to say why this seems very unlikely because he had the whole of series 8 writing time believing she would be leaving, if he had things to use for the character that would of been the time to use it, but he didn't and instead spun a new avenue for the character that didn't look back on anything from her time in series 7.

And since when does a "what if" require "evidence", as you demand? When people speculate whether Captain Jack may return to the show, or if the female 'familiar face' returning to series 9 may be River or Jenny, do you demand evidence from them?!

IMO it's the same thing as the other interview. She isn't including 11/12 (Matt/Peter) in her decision. If Jenna was to say 'Matt is my favourite Doctor' then fans are going to twist that into she doesn't like Peter. Same if she said 'Peter is my favourite Doctor' then people would think her unfair for not choosing Matt. I think it goes without saying that 'her' two Doctor's are her favourites so she answers the question, not including them
