1st Gen Nexus 7...
Hello, sorry if this has been asked before but I have a 1st Gen Nexus 7 which is holding up nicely but the battery is starting to lose efficiency... anyway there is an option to update to Android 5.0.2, when I click 'Restart and Install' it tells me it is going to reboot in 10 seconds but when it counts down to zero nothing happens, it just says 'Rebooting now', I have left it for a long time and the only thing I can do it click the back or home button or choose the option to Cancel installation. What's the score?

Power button & volume down pushed together for 5-10 seconds should force a hard reboot and get you to a screen that says 'Start'. By pushing the power button, it should then start up but will take a while if it applies 5.0.2.

If you get a chance ... don't install. The N7 runs considerably better (or less bad?) on 4.4 than on 5.x
Some seem to think its okay, but overall it isn't a great build of the OS. |

How was it running on Kitkat? Had it become sluggish over time?

Thats more like the typical behaviour of 5.x on the 2012 N7. Google aren't that consistent these days with their updates.

I'll hold my hands up and take it all back, mine was great but its started being a frustrating experience to use, laggy and general slowing down etc. I even did a factory reset which is no biggy these days thanks to google backup and it was just as bad. I've no idea whats happend to it but its suddenly utter shit

I friend called me yesterday to say that she was thinking of getting an iPad as her Nexus 7 was running slow. It is perhaps a common problem.
Is it possible to roll back to a previous version of Android? I suspect this is easier on the Nexus than other tablets. |

Going back to KK is possible but i am seeing lots of people saying bricked device after doing it.
I'm hoping Google will sort it out. The Moto G runs brilliant on Lollipop and thats only got 1GB or RAM etc. |

The Moto G runs brilliant on Lollipop and thats only got 1GB or RAM etc. I like Lollipop, but it really needs further optimisation for the 2012 Nexus 7 if they want us to use it. A better solution would probably have been for them to just leave this device on KK and be done. I like the idea of being up to date, but not at the expense of the experience. Conversely, 5.0.2 is largely trouble free on my 2012 Nexus 4. I've said it before and I'll say it again; it's not the device that's the issue. There's plenty left in the tablet and plenty for this OS. They need to fix it, and quick imho. It's beginning to look really bad. |

Can't the 2012 Nexus 7 just be flashed with one of these images to put the previous version of Android on?
