The lump in his throat when he mentions Susan... what a performance! He inhabits the role so well (or vice versa?). Yet again demonstrating how little he takes his younger audience for granted.

Well that was fun
Must admit when I saw the thread title I thought not another over the top praise of Capaldi but that was really good.
When he says about staring into his face to see the other Doctors,I love the kid sitting next to him intensely staring.

"Appearing in character as the Doctor, Capaldi retains the title of greatest man alive" lol

So great, especially love where he(The doc) talks about Susan

Loved that. Great bloke, and really knows his stuff as a Who fan. Cheers, OP.

However cynical and jaded fandom can get (speak for yourself, you cry THIS is what it's about. Those kids are completely engaged, and the role is clearly in good hands.

Not so sure. If he's really a Who fan, and he is a well respected actor and his opinion counts, why doesn't he complain about the quality of scripts, which at times frankly make him look like a joke (e .g the explanation scene of the moon being an egg).

I refer you to my above edit. Which I did before seeing your post, so not having a dig. Maybe he liked the Kill The Moon script? So subjective.

Are you serious? So if he likes the writing, hes not a fan? Hes the epidome of a fan. and what does this have to with him interacting with kids/sick kids? Heck of a thread to take a shot at him in,,,,

I love his portrayal of the doctor, I hope he stays a long time.

I didn't see your edit before I posted. Totally agree with you about his work for kids.

Yes I am serious. I was replying to a specific point, i wasn't having a go at the work he does for kids which I heartily support.

I stand by my post. He is a respected actor, he claims to be a Doctor Who fan. Some of the scripts he has worked with do not do his reputation as either any good whatsoever.

BTW when he was announced as The Doctor I was so happy. But his work in the role so far has, to me, been a massive disappointment.

Each to their own, but there are numerous people out there who like Peter Capaldi's incarnation, and think he's the best actor to play Doctor Who to date (I'm one of them). There are people out there who think series eight is the best series of Doctor Who to date (I'm one of them). You disagree with us, and that's fine, but those of us who do like Twelve, and enjoyed those episodes, are just as much a fan of the show as everyone else is.

Peter Capaldi is a fan too. Regardless of his thoughts on the scripts, he's obviously been passionate about Doctor Who since he was a child, and is having a blast playing the doctor.

He's brilliant - not just on-screen, but off-screen too.

Can you imagine, after the read-through..

"This is terrible. Bring me another episode, Steven."

I think his stance as a Doctor Who fan goes beyond his ability to veto scripts.

My guess is that he doesn't complain about the scripts because he's a professional actor who understands the limits of his role in the production of the show. That's assuming he has a problem with the scripts, which is a pretty big assumption.

Again, what does this have to do with Peter Capaldi in character making the last moments of children that much more bearable? Sorry but scripts are irrelevant in this situation, and Peter Capaldi does done more than enough to prove he is a Who fan. He's a bigger fan than you for sure.

Just because you don't like something doesn't make it bad.

I can certainly imagine Tom Baker doing it on a regular basis around the Season 15-18 point! Well, we anecdotally know he did! He was probably slightly better behaved when Mary Tamm was there. Would you want to act like a bit of a tit in front of someone that beautiful, funny, down to earth and smart? Not that actors shouldn't have a say, of course.

"Whippet s***" wasn't it.

OT: You can get a nice Whipped Whippet in Julie's Bistro, according to the blackboard in the last episode of House of Fools. Um, bit random sorry. Just watched it!

I haven't been on here for a while, and after seeing the usual suspects spouting their usual negativity, it didn't take me long to remember why I've been avoiding this forum.

I watched the video and thought it lovely - Peter Capadi is just excellent.

His scripts have been mostly great. I didn't like the lack of payoff in Listen yet a lot of people raved about it. The only other drop in quality was the Forest episode, but it still wasn't anywhere near the lows of some of S7. Going back even further, all previous Doctor's have had bum scripts. Colin Baker and Slyvester McCoy had entire series of them, Capaldi has had some good things to work with in my opinion.

It is easy to make the mistake of assuming others share your views. I mean, I'm too old to like the Eleventh doctor, and I couldn't stand Matt Smith - nor did I enjoy any of his episodes, but he was obviously popular too.

To this day, I'm still not sure why, but Matt Smith and his episodes were obviously popular, and made the show successful overseas. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Exactly. I absolutely loathed the Matt Smith era, couldn't warm to him as the Doctor, hated his episodes and found his acting ridiculous, but a lot of people seemed to take to him, so fair enough.

World would be dull if we all liked the same things.

Bless him cool way to get the children to know about his other lives too. Seems to be really enjoying his time as the doctor. Hope he has fun and is pleased with the end result. Should be some good stuff in S9.
