She ran into clearance problems with some samples on her latest album, and stopped working on it in order to write a screenplay.
This is my favorite song from her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKIwIdWGmHM |

Absolute tune
I remember it was used on an advert and in quite a few american dramas at the time. It was hardly the biggest hit of the century but for me, it wasn't a song i could escape from as i heard it a lot. |

One of her songs was used as the theme song played over the opening credits for Celebrity Love Island around ten years ago.

Love Jem and own both her albums. I was listening to Finally Woken just the other day in fact. Falling for You, Flying High and 24 are all brilliant tracks.
The OP mentioned the song she wrote for Madonna. This was actually released before any of her solo stuff, and it's one of the highlights of 'American Life'. It's a shame it was never promoted as a single in the UK because it's a gorgeous song. I remember reading an interview with Jem in Q Magazine about 10 years ago when she said she never actually met Madonna. She started to write the song with Guy Sigsworth (called Silly Thing), and then Guy Sigsworth took it to Madonna who helped to complete it. ![]() Edit - Jems demo is on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5yrf9mPgnk. I'll be honest, I perfer Madonnas version with the full strings.

I like Jem for Just a Ride in particular. I remembered most of its lyrics. It was my favourite song from 10 years ago and estimated 4th favourite song of the decade!

Her Down To Earth album was released in 2008 but didn't sell very well. It was quite good too. The lead single was called Amazing.

Jem! She'd totally disappeared from my consciousness until this thread. She did have some good songs.
Same with Lene Marlin, I don't know where she's got to. |
