EE giving all customers portable chargers

Everything Goes

EE are giving all customers portable chargers. The EE-branded Power Bar has a 2,600mAh battery giving you roughly enough for one full charge of your phone. If you find yourself carrying around a dead one, you can walk into any EE shop and switch it out for a fully charged replacement for free.

Quote:
“All mobile and/or broadband customers are eligible for a free Power Bar, though pay-as-you-goers will need to have been with EE for at least three months. If we're being pedantic, it's not technically free, as you'll need to send a 35p text to receive the code that'll get you a Power Bar at an EE store.”

What's the code

Hmm I wonder if there will be a limit / any small print to this. Can see it being very useful for times when you are out for the whole day (as even if you have your own portable charger, you still have the problem of having to charge those up).

That's probably because the scheme hasn't even launched yet.

It even says on EE's website "When it's launched, customers will be able to text is for a code" (or words to that effect)...

As already indicated - the promotion has yet to launch
.

From EE themselves:

Quote:
“All eligible* customers can get their free EE Power Bar when the promotion launches in the coming weeks by texting ‘POWER’ to 365 to receive a promotional code. Texts cost 35p and customers can collect their free EE Power Bar by redeeming this code at any EE store across the UK.”

It looks like the supplied lead is USB to micro USB. I'm assuming it could be used with an iPhone using the phone's own charging lead.

And is it just me, or does it look a bit like a lady's personal pleasure device?

It looks similar to a device I've got from Anker (and yes, it does rather remind me of something else !)

It works very well. You charge it from a USB port or charger using the supplied lead, and then use your phone's own USB to whatever lead, to charge from the device.

I get 2-3 charges of my iphone5 from mine.

Don't know why EE are giving them away, possibly some offset against tax scheme

Max has it spot on. Anker don't actually make that device, it's rebranded. Not sure which brand EE are handing out.

do they need to see the phone or verify id etc?

as I am disabled walking into a store is not doable for me.

I am wondering if I can send the text and then have someone collect on my behalf?

I guess they'll be charging the dead ones and handing them back out, I dont like the idea of that, hygiene issues....

I'm assuming it'll be like Orange Wednesday where you just read out the code, and they don't check anything else.

You can always just keep the original one they give you and charge it yourself if it worries you so much.

I have a PAYG sim that I've had for 3 months and has £5 of credit on it so I'll text and get one of those free when it starts, who wouldn't!

Who are "eligible customers"?

Can't you just get a free SIM, text them and then get one never to be seen again?
