Apologies if on wrong thread but have just purchased the above box and wondered if anyone can give me detailed instructions on which leads go where from back of box as instructions only list how to set channels, no mention of actually connecting it to start with!
I have very basic knowledge only so would appreciate all help

Without knowing what you are going to connect it to, it's to hard to know. Some photos of the box connections and the connections available on what you are connecting to (TV/AV receiver ?) would help.

Well I would have thought it was fairly simple?

Feeds from the LNB to the two screw on F-Type sockets and either SCART or HDMI lead to TV depending on which model you have and what sockets are available on the TV.

The one photo I found, has one rf in and one rf out so presumably a single tuner non recording box.

The usb port doesn't appear to be able to use it to record.

Wrong it is a single tuner with full PVR capability downloading various EPGs for different countries from the web. It records both SD and HD to usb HDDs or memory sticks. I have one and although not the easiest PVR to use does produce excellent non-encrypted recordings.

It is from the Sky Box/ Open Box series of receivers and has four network apps - YouTube, Network EPGs (for 21 different variations of country), Weather (forecasts from many different cities), YouPorn (?). A fairly well specified cheap receiver/PVR.

It depends on what you are connecting it to.

Cable from dish to lnb in
Cable from either HDMI or scart socket to TV (depending on whether your TV has HDMI input socket)USB cable from external HDD OR USB memory stick to usb socket - you will not be able to use usb WiFi dongles if you wish to record
Cable from your internet router to the network socket - if you wish to record OR USB WiFi dongle into USB socket if not recording
Cable from audio out sockets to audio amplifier or sound bar unless connecting TV via AV amplier with HDMI

I see that this box is being offered on Ebay, Gumtree and Alibaba (amongst others) as a Freesat PVR - obviously since it is missing the Freesat logo it is not an approved model and this is miss-representation. It is simply a fta box with recording capability. Does Freesat monitor and/or act on this type of product? Like the OP says he only has a basic knowledge and there are probably many people out there getting their fingers burnt buying something that isn't as stated. The manufacturers website offers no help at all.

Don't some third party boxes actually support the EPG even if they are not official units?

I seem to remember that the encryption is trivial enough for the likes of MythTV to support it but enough to allow Freesat to sue non-licencees

It's a shame that we didn't implement the full DVB EPG like Freeview and other countries' free to air satellite efforts. Perhaps we'd see some real competition since every TV with a satellite tuner would work, and we might see cheaper PVRs than Humax's officially approved £200 effort

That is misrepresentation by the sellers and is up to freesat to approach ebay, gumtree etc and complain

Why would you expect the manufacturers site to be of help - they sell the boxes as FTA with no mention of freesat or use of their logo on the website.

It is really up to freesat to publicise that boxes without the freesat logo are not approved/licensed by them.

These boxes can download up to 21 different EPGs (for different countries from the web - they do not use either the freesat or Sky EPG broadcasts but like virtually every FTA box use the broadcast DVB-S ("now and next only " for the UK) EPG.

Broadcast of the DVB S EPG is down to broadcasters and there are few that broadcast more than "now and next"

I meant that they don't offer any help such as offering a download of a user guide. I know most manufacturers these days supply minimal set-up/operating instructions in the box (often nothing more than a set-up leaflet) but do offer extended details on their websites.
