Do we have any fans of Manchester band Simply Red? In my view, Simply Red are one of Manchester's best bands and are underrated

My top 3 Simply Red songs are;

3. Holding back the years
2. A new flame
1. Money's too tight to mention

If past threads are anything to go by, they are not a hugely popular band amongst people here. Would probably have been a better idea to have posted in the appreciation thread.

Hadn't heard of the hate specially reserved to them. to be honest they're nothing special, epitome of 90's bland Lighthouse Family type output. Mick Hucknall sure thought the world of himself, remember an ninterview with Parkie where he continually namedropped. Phil Collins thought they were the best band out there right now so he deemed fit to share.

I grew up listening to Simply Red - my dad absaloutly LOVES simply red & Mick, I have been to see them a few times over the years with my dad and they are FANTASTIC! I bought my dad tickets to see them this year in Liverpool for Christmas!

My dad calls Mick Hucknall 'Ginger Elvis' haha! silly joke we have in our house...

But in all honestly they have some fantastic songs/albums.

My faves are (to name a few);
STARS
SOMETHING GOT ME STARTED
IF YOU DONT KNOW MY BY NOW
SUNRISE

My fave album is;
HOME

I love listening to them as they remind me of my family, dad, and growing up!

Roll on the tour.....

I call them Simply Beige as I find them really dull. The epitome of middle-of-the-road.

Lighthouse Family aren't similar to Simply Red. Lighthouse Family are more soul based while Simply Red are more pop/ rock based

Aren't Mick Hucknall and Rebecca Brooks the same person?

Seriously, they're a decent group. "It's Only Love" is my fav track of theirs. My Mum was quite mad on them.

Both are dreary, boring, uninspired, awful.... Thats good enough for me to compare.

My mum like their music (the classic stuff at least) but I've always found them deathly dull.

Lol you beat me to it! I'd love to hear these rockers but assume that they'll be hit with a cease and desist if they don't change their name.

I consider some songs like Money's too tight to mention and Fairground to be quite rocky
