When does Google phase out support for micro SD cards in Android?
Hi guys,
When does Google phase out support altogether for micro SD cards? I was thinking of buying a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but the Android 5.0 is available. Any advice? Thanks in advance. |

Even if Google phase out support, I imagine that Samsung may try and keep it in by adding the code to their AOSP fork themselves (if this is possible). Google doesn't like SD cards and the industry is moving away from them, but I think that for the moment you'll be fine. I doubt Samsung will release a software update that makes such a big feature for some people like this unusable.

Android 5.0 actually improved SD card support over Android 4.4. There may be reasons to turn down the update but don't worry about the SD card.

I don't expect sd card support to dissappear from android anytime soon. I hope it stays and with Google targeting the next billion with Android one, sd card support is important as android one phones come with little storage on board.

phase out support altogether would mean there is a high chance of people leaving the Android phones and going else where would not be a good move it would be the start of the end for android
