Hollyoaks - I've lost the will to watch
I spend 90% of the time shouting at the screen. I think it's time to call it a day and turn off, after almost 20 years
Why hasn't Kirkwood been sacked? It's awful. Phil Redmond must be mortified. I think there's only about 10 characters I actually like. JP, Ste, Darren, Nancy, Tony, Lockie, Jack, Trevor, Cindy. That's 9! |

Funny enough, the same thing was being said in mid 2009
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1098845 I agreed then but the show did improve. Having said that, I agree again. It may be really bad at the moment but could it improve again? I really hope so. |

I think it can improve. I don't think it is as bad as it was in 2009/2010.
That 2009 thread is excellent and shows what a mess HO was in back then. |

Yep, It definitely isn't that bad (yet). At least there are storylines, in 2009 most episodes were made up of nothing but dull sub plots to fill 30 minutes.
That 2009 thread is excellent and shows what a mess HO was in back then. At least Lucy Allen created Cheryl and Lynsey (even if Lynsey and Brendan were brought in by Paul Marquess) Does the show need a big Marquess style shake up to rejuvenate it though. The changes then were quite brutal, but it did pay off. If Kirkwood does stay though how does the show progress? And yeah, that thread was great, and eventually morphed into the General Discussion thread, so it didn't do too much harm!

The show revolves around, kidnappings, murders, deaths, stunts, who is bi/gay this week, Miss Marple would have a field day if she lived in the Village.

Calm down. It's really not that bad. The 2009 era was a hard time to watch, every episode dragged and nothing's happened. Least now something interesting is happening.
There's some really good SL's happening atm, Mercy Return, Grace/Kim, Baby Swap, Sienna's return and Patrick's death. |

Aside from Mercy's return and the upocming end of Patrick, this year is shaping up to be just as bad as 2014. |

There were decent characters then though. I can't think of too many who are now. Kirkwood hasn't really introduced many good characters this time round.

HO was bad in 2009 but when he came in charge he made it 10 times worse. |

It has its ups and downs. I do think that the bad writing is an issue and the sense that they're treading water as they have been with Patrick/Maxine (but hopefully that's turned a corner), Freddie/Lindsey and Ste/John Paul. Characters never learn or change, which is ridiculous as the characters that have made the most drastic changes like Trevor and Grace are some of the most successful characters. And then you have eternal doormats like Maxine and John Paul (and to an extent Phoebe) who suffer misery upon misery with their only comfort being from people who consistently fail them. I understand that Maxine would have been changed by the abuse but it doesn't seem to have been acknowledged as everyone treats her as if she's always been passive. She didn't actively go after Dodger and Darren; she just accepted them. Just as John Paul accepts Ste's lousy behaviour.

People were also moaning about the state of the show back in 2005, http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...=hollyoaks+axe
The truth is that people have always said the same things; the show isnt as good as it used to be; the producer needs sacking etc., but what we as viewers enjoy is personal to ourselves and its inevitable that with a show that goes out 5 days a week all year round there will be periods that use characters I cant relate to in stories I have no interest in but will be enjoyed by others. Its swings and roundabouts |

Hollyoaks has always been my fave soap in the last year it has got so bad i now only watch certain bits of it. I record it and just watch the Patrick stuff. Once he leaves thats it, i'm done with it. Such a shame as it was so good a few years back, best soap going.

![]() I stopped watching a while ago also. Too bad it was good once upon a time but now when the plot of the week is who will be cheating on who this week is all that the show can offer it is becoming zzzzzz material. |
