Me too. Breakfast and drive time should always be about making the listener laugh on the journey to and from work

Well going by the make-up of the station, I think with Edith they're going to go more music-orientated in the morning, they probably reckon there's no way they can beat Moyles and O'Connell in that regard so go for a different type of listener.

In the drivetime slot, and during the day it maybe different.

Probably why I never listen to breakfast radio as I can drive all the way to work without hearing a single song.

As long as people enjoy it though.

Edith's show may be more music heavy but as D2 may never be available in my area I may never hear it.

Surely if you just want music in a morning you listen to your iPod? Or is that just me?

Same here which is a real shame. I forked out for DAB in my car mainly to listen to Planet Rock but that's going and we aren't getting D2 which is annoying.

I do hence the reason I used the phrase "I never listen to breakfast radio" (until i get to work and it is foisted on me of course).

I've been left disappointed by Radio X as despite enjoying many of the presenters (even Johnny Vaughan to my utmost surprise) I can only take so many young northern lads with guitars and Florence and the machine before I have to switch over.

I totally agree with this post. I was extremely excited when radio x launched but I lasted about six weeks. The repetition of certain songs like son of a bitch by nathaniel and the new one by the libertines was too much as for the Florence over kill even moyles used to moan they were playing her too much. I was very surprised I liked johnnys shows too because when he was on absolute I wasn't keen at all. I've got a feeling musically I'm going to be disappointed with Virgin as whilst I don't mind the odd pop track I'm more into the Rock and indie type music of absolute and the old virgin and hearing Beyoncé on the test transmissions is making me think the worst but I'll reserve judgement until it launches. Out of interest does anybody know if they will be playing any music during transmission or just what we've currently got which is the promo for virgin, talk radio and talksport 2.

Wondering why people are even discussing this D1 / D2 stuff. Laughable to suggest that people like Vaughan or Kay give a shit about digital radio multiplexes over the size of their pay packet. I'll cede on Moyles, but he's a unique case.

Being on D1 or D2 is going to have minimal impact short-term, and shouldn't be a problem long-term. They'll have same coverage on mobile, online etc. too.

I'm looking forward to Virgin Radio, I'm just wondering what it can do to take me away from Absolute Radio. I was hyped when Radio X was launched, but sadly the excitement didn't last long once the station started and I switched back to Absolute.

They need to play a good mix of old and new tracks, and they really need the equivalent of The No Repeat Guarantee! That's one of Absolutes attributes which really makes it special to me, knowing they don't repeat songs during the hours I mostly listen to it.

As for the presenters, I'll tolerate almost anyone as long as they don't go on-and-on about themselves, as long as they have good music knowledge and as long as they make me laugh once in a while.

It's just you. I like listening to my own music in the car but hopefully shows like the morning show will help me and others discover new stuff that they might otherwise have missed. Radio for me anyway is to some degree about discovering new stuff then searching it out and maybe buying it. Nostalgia is good on the radio at times too but what I really hate is inane chatter from inane 'DJs' that think their opinions and voice will entertain me - It will not. So maybe Virgin will not be too bad if they manage to keep the inanity down and the good music to the fore. OK if you like inane rubbish in the morning, and it's clear a lot do, from 'DJs' too in love with their own voices then there is already plenty, too many I'd argue, out there to choose from.

It would be nice to have a choice on the radio, rather than the same old silly trivial gossip across the dial. If you like this type of show that's great, but it would be more balanced if the UK public had an option to tune to something more music orientated of a morning.

I'd listen again. With the exception of Chatter, adverts, travel, news, more chatter, guess the sound, boring surveys, girl laughing at co-host, there is the occasional song. Although it does get in the way of that trivial gossip which must be a bore.

Living in the West Midlands I can tell you that Smooth, Free, Heart, Magic, Gold all play music on breakfast. The only ones that do large amounts of games, phone calls etc are Moyles and OC. I just think a DJ introducing records then playing them is fine during the day but going to work and probably more important to me driving home from work I like something that makes me laugh like Geoff Lloyds home time show before it was moved to a later slot. Personal choice, there's no right or wrong we all enjoy different aspects of radio.

Why shouldn't radio stations cater for people who prefer music to chatter at breakfast. You could use that argument about any music genre or station format by suggesting they should listen to their ipod. Whether it's religious, a genre you dislike, or music rather than talk. Radio should be for everyone and although we are starting see some more music formats creep into the breakfast slots, I cannot understand the switch off tough luck and listen to your own library argument. I would like to hear less chatter at breakfast and drive but equally I wouldn't want ever station to adopt that policy. I am very keen that radio listeners should have as much choice as bandwidth and commercial sustainability allows.

Surely you could apply that argument to any time of day as well?
