That could be a decent shout. Bowie has to be considered I'd have thought.

It was rumoured that Edith was offered the afternoon slot (1-4l on x but no one knows

The first time around they had an exclusive from INXS - Born to be wild. Maybe they've done the same and got someone to record something specially for the launch this time?

The Virgin launch from 1993 can be found here (second one down) if anyone's interested http://aircheckdownloads.com/Virgin.htm

Kate Lawler was also linked with the Radio X launch, so it's certainly not as massively different in the type of personnel that some have hinted at in this thread.

In fact, Radio X and Virgin were both being formulated at exactly the same time (spring / summer 2015).

I know for a fact that Bowman had talks with X, and that her main motivation for turning them down was the offer from UTV.

I’m interested to see what format Edith’s breakfast show takes. I imagine there will be plenty of speech/content but it will be more focused/less random than Moyles and the OC. Going from her previous I could see artist interviews and live sessions plus features on film.

I suspect there will be more music compared to Moyles and OC but probably not compared to the likes of Smooth, heat and Kisstory (which are where I go when I'm in a more music mood in the morning).

I'd suggest the much publicised "radio for blokes" that Ashley Tabor talked about when Radio X was unveiled may have been the nail in the coffin for any women in radio - Lawler and Bowman included. I'm sure they were considered at some point, but it certainly appears that men only is the format they've decided on. I've not heard a single woman on air hosting a show during the day, only shown on the schedule as overnights and late night weekend slots. I always thought "Generation X" which XFM took its name from, were more progressive thinking than that. Returning to Virgin, I'm just glad to see it's a little more "2016" than the 90's lads revival at Radio X.

of course someone would say that if they were turned down for a show. Many of those linked with it at the time were probably simply linking themselves or by their agents to it.

It was all mentioned, Lawler and Bowman being linked, on the Popbitch mail-outs that actually mentioned that Moyles was going there, and pretty much got the rest of the schedule.

As said above I think RadioX's wish for a "blokey" station probably helped finalise the final line-up.

BTW, I don't think anyone's debating that Moyles is by far the biggest signing for both stations, and he's presumably been offered much more money with X,but the rest of the line-ups aren't that different. Vaughan was just doing weekends at Talksport, Kay isn't a big radio name, or even much of a TV one nowadays.

I'll give this a listen when Edith Bowman isn't on air. Never understood her popularity.

You are in the West Midlands so quite likely to be covered although Walsall appears to be a blackspot. It seems strange that you did previously get it though. Try taking the radio outside and do a manual tune on 11A.

It's reappeared on one of my sets now but not the others. The others like heart extra etc are showing just not Virgin?

Heart Extra is not on the same multiplex as Virgin. Did you try and do a manual tune for 11A?

It needs to include "SDL National" when scanning. You may need to do a full "Autotune" every time (e.g. press and hold Autotune)
