My main problem with the playlist is that godawful 21Pilots song. Really annoys me for some reason.

Just haven't listened to Ediths show, I work late and sleep though it, listen-again would be a decent idea, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Oasis are great BTW.

The Total Access show is actually quite good... If I didn't know it was effectively a 'best of' for a show on UTV's local stations then there's nothing on air that gives it away. It's very consistent with the rest of the station, much more than I expected, and seems to be branded on air as 'Total Access' rather than 'Best of Total Access' which I think it was referred to originally.

There's a "Now Playing" twitter feed - launched on 14/04/16 - seems to be a "pick and choose" list rather than a complete schedule.

New playlist for this week:

They need to add the excellent new song by Lush though. Suede's latest is good too.

Nice to see the vitriol has died down in here. The 128k web stream is indeed sounding nice now, which was my number 1 irritation. I don't subscribe to the station imaging argument. I don't think it needs in-yer-face shouty jingles plastered over it. The understated idents work for a more "grown up" sound instead of trying to recreate a powerhouse early 90s throwback.

Output still sounding good whenever I've dipped in. Edith wasn't as bad as I remembered from her R1 days but would never hold my interest for a daily listen. Will fill a niche for miserable gits who can't cope with being forcibly entertained in the morning.

working from home this week so had a chance to listen to Virgin, particularly mid mornings and have to say I am quite liking the playlist-- definetely more varied than a lot of stations. the presenter Jamie seems quite personable as well.

Just had a listen to the Mac twins, more Saturday warm up than Saturday night material, very personable and a good listen. Anyone know if they have done radio before?

I agree - I usually get to listen in the mornings and Jamie comes over really well!!

Finally, some sort of playlist function on the website.

No searchable playlist yet but this is a good start.

I listened to The Mac Twins a couple of weeks back, and I thoroughly enjoyed their music choice and presenting style. Virgin Radio now just needs a decent breakfast show and it could steal a lot of my listening off Absolute and The Wave.

Internet streams - no sound for past hour.
Both 128kps MP3 and the 48kps AAC (+ radioplayer)
Metadata OK on MP3 stream but no sound?
DAB OK

- just me?

The streams seem to be dead at the moment.

I was really looking forward to the new Virgin Radio, but every time I listen it never fails to disappoint. The sound quality is still very poor (both for music and DJ talk), the imaging is terribly weak for such a big brand, and the music policy still seems to be all over the place with lots of 90s rap tunes (Blackstreet, 2Pac, Pras etc) mixed alongside current rock/indie.

I was listening to the Russell Howard's Takeover when it went dead online at 11.30...........sound levels on speech were significantly lower than the tracks played throughout since 10am. This often happens on Edith Bowman's show too.....tends to make it feel very amateurish.

If you're looking to know what's played, there was a Twitter feed publishing now playing info, but it appears to have stopped posting. Maybe it'll come back to life? https://twitter.com/VirginRadioUKnp

Quite unexpectedly, I've found Jamie East to be a really good listen. He doesn't take anything too seriously, it's a fun show and slightly unpredictable. The other week he managed to play a Christmas song in full since it was part of a joke on the show. I can't imagine many radio stations that'd let him have that kind of freedom on weekday daytimes, but it works. Lots of listener interaction too, and not just giving 'shout outs' or asking what kind of biscuit people are eating. Having WhatsApp makes a lot of sense for interaction, surprised more UK radio stations don't yet.

Recently they played the new Radiohead album in full (I think on the Sunday night Music Discovery show?). This is something Absolute did when it first changed from Virgin, but I think it was relatively short lived. A good example of Virgin trying something different.

Ah so they weren't going to play xmas songs the whole show like they claimed? As soon as that song came on I retuned and didn't bother tuning back for the rest of the day

Surprising how much Virgin have turned things around lately with some great sounding shows. Jamie East, Kate Lawler, Tim Cocker and The Mac Twins all sounding really good these days.

Good to hear Robin Banks (back!) standing in on Virgin Radio this morning. I believe he did breakfast yesterday as well.

I gave up on the station when one of the presenters started giving out Game of Thrones spoilers on air. When people complained he seemed to find it hilarious.

Anyway - I turned over and deleted from my presets.

Slightly extreme reaction perhaps? If a friend/colleague did that presumably you'd never speak to them again.

You are aware that was a prank right? And the spoilers were fake: https://www.facebook.com/VirginRadio...7457144289580/

I notice that stats on Virgin Radio are now up on CompareMyRadio

http://comparemyradio.com/stations/Virgin_Radio

and a comparison with Absolute shows that Absolute is playing twice as many unique tracks
http://comparemyradio.com/compare/Vi...Absolute_Radio

Virgin has a variety gauge of 15% - similar to Radio X's 16%, behind Absolute's 22% and way behind Radio 1 and 2
