Yes. I'm just not keen on stations that prank their listeners.

In fairness, if the music was less repetitive and presenters better I may not have tuned out.

Is that the mid morning guy? One of the show's - think it's after Breakfast - talks openly and at length about the latest Game of Thrones episode the day after it's on tv. Shows a bit of contempt for casual listeners who might be tuning in I'd say. It caught me out...tuned away and not been back since.

Jamie East is on at 10am and is a self proclaimed authority on GOT - has a spot on Sky Atlantic show "Thronecast" which is broadcast at 10pm on Mon evenings after GOT.
He discusses GOT exrtensively on Virgin on Tuesday mornings ...........this will cease to be a problem for anyone avoiding spoilers after next weeks final series episode.

Repetitive ? Have you ever listened to capital or heart now thats repetitive.

Virgin has a very varied playlist yes some of the newer tracks come around often but that happens on all stations some worse than others the two mentioned before probably being the worst culprits.

and a comparison with Absolute shows that Absolute is playing twice as many unique tracks
http://comparemyradio.com/compare/Vi...Absolute_Radio

Virgin has a variety gauge of 15% - similar to Radio X's 16%, behind Absolute's 22% and way behind Radio 1 and 2”

Capital FM has a variety gauge of 7% and Heart 16%

Im not sure how acurate comparemyradio is especially with heart radio there variety guage always used to be nearer to 10/12 % and there most played tracks around 120 or so, its been giving some odd figures for a long time. Capitals look more accurate again now after being obviously wrong for a long time.

I find it hard to believe heart have similar figures to virgin listening to both its obvious virgins variety and unique tracks woukd be higher.

CompareMyRadio has lots of inaccuracies eg duplicate tracks being marked as unique

Taking Colplay's latest single Up and Up as an example ...........this can be registered as Up and Up , UpandUp, Up&Up, Up & Up

That's down to stations labelling the track differently, but it won't affect an individual station's unique/variety count.

Virgin is broadcasting live this afternoon from the Latitude festival in deepest Suffolk ....which, ironically is a place you can't actually hear it on a radio*

So does anybody have any guesses as to what NewsCorp will do with Virgin Radio? I wonder if they really just want to get their hands on the sports stations and will close or sell Vr off?

Part of the SDL Bid shows that UTV Radio (now NewsCorp) have to use a certain amount of capacity on the multiplex so closing it wouldn't be an option, unless they first find a replacement service from another operator, create a new service, or expand the bit rate of the talkSTATIONS.

Hope it doesn't go, but as I like it it probably will

Does anyone actually listen to this? I have tried but find the music mix very strange and presentation very off the wall. Who is programming this? I cant imagine Mr Branson being so proud of his brand is pleased with it!

Probably makes no odds to him, he still makes money from the licensing of the name. It'll be interesting to see how Rajar figures are. I listened a couple of times but heard some very amateurish deejays so that put me off for good

Am I the only one that likes the music mix on the station?

Presenters can be a bid odd at times, but they aren't making me re-tune like some stations do...

She's already been back on the BBC presenting 5 Live's film review last Friday afternoon as a guest presenter

Me too ........but not for more than 3-4 hours at a time ....tends to repeat too often. Plays a lot more new stuff than Absolute.

The first Rajars are next week, It could be that Lachlan Murdoch takes more interest as he runs music stations in Australia and may either keep the franchise or perhaps rebrand it?

News Corp don't own it yet, the Wireless Group shareholders have until 17 August to vote on the deal.

Hasn't she left the BBC entirely though? I had the impression she still did some shows for Radio Scotland.

Not sure about that, I think he could tell them they can't use the name anymore as his deal was with another company. When the original Virgin Radio UK was sold from one company to another he pulled out, hence the rebrand to Absolute.

I think they had the option to stay as Virgin but it was hugely expensive. I'm not sure it was Branson that pulled out.

He didn't pull out, the new owners TIML decided to use their own brand rather than pay him the franchise fee.

TWG have said they are hoping for 300k reach for the new Virgin when the RAJARs come out on Thursday.

Branson didn't pull out -- the new owners decided not to buy the name as they felt it was too expensive and limited them from branching out into other things.

Although, yes officially he didn't pull out, I got the impression from what was said at the time of the sale he wasn't that keen on Times of India owning the Virgin name, considering they paid £53 million for it, I think they really wanted the name (Branson alluded to this on his TalkRADIO interview before the new Virgin radio launched).
I really can't see this Virgin radio lasting long under Newscorp when it goes through.
