Tim Cocker will be good in that slot. I remember him on XFM Manchester drive and that was usually enjoyable.

If Kate Lawler is one of the presenters, hopefully she will be on at night. She talks very quietly. I wouldn't want to hear her during the day. HHer show on Bauer's City 1 network was lively.

What type of show would Tims likely be?
I've always liked breakfast shows from the likes of Russ n Jonno, Pete and Geoff, Daryl Denham etc

Going by who she's started to follow I'm gussing she'll be there. She did a very odd link on Monday mentioning a good rajar, thanking the listeners, but then adding something about not wanting to get too emotional.

She's been at Bauer for a good few years, Kerrang all that time, (amongst others) even though now it's not a proper radio station.

I thought he was a better listen at drive the first time around at XFM Manchester than he was at breakfast when he went back. I just felt he tried a bit too hard to be amusing at breakfast. His drive show was more natural to me.

I agree. It always felt a bit forced to me with the mateyness of this JimBob character too. Expect to see an announcement in the morning

Yes, we'll soon find out. Edith Bowman, Kate Lawler and Tim Cocker all looking fairly likely though.

I think Cocker tried to push the humour element higher due to those that preceded him on XFM Manchester breakfast. Apart from Pete Mitchell they were all career comedians and humour was a major traditional part of the vast majority of XFM breakfast shows.

I would have loved Jon Holmes to have been doing this.

With the space coming free soon on the London mutiplexes , I wonder if they will have any plans to broadcast in stereo to London ?

....with Heat and Kisstory coming on DAB in Swansea... maybe to boost reception they could hop on to there - been no sign of any testing from Kilvey Hill at all for the new multiplex

Well I for one will be abandoning Absolute for Edith 🙂

Edith Bowman on breakfast. That is gutsy.

And with Colin Murray doing TalkSport just next door...

...still no clarity on the music policy, though.

Edith? Brave decision! She knows she will have to talk about things other than films, right?

Having said that, Ill give it a listen when Moyles is next off.

I'm surprised that they never poached Jon Holmes for the Breakfast show.

That's an underwhelming line up. No shows after 11? They probably blew the budget on Edith

Is he just seeing out his contract with Radio X, or did he sign up for a new one?

To be fair, they haven't revealed the entire schedule yet. No weekends (although whoever does overnights won't probably get a lot of press). Talk Radio's schedule is still filled with holes at this point, too.

I think it's an interesting line-up and more than I was expecting. I thought it would only be presenters at breakfast and drivetime.

Edith at breakfast has the potential to be something different and stand out from other shows at that time. I’m not sure if Jamie and Matt have done radio before but I’ve seen them on TV and found them entertaining.

Pleased to see Tim Cocker get evenings as well and Kate’s a good listen too.

Edith seems like a smart choice for breakfast - trying to take on Moyles and O'Connell (and indeed Evans) with another talk/comedy based breakfast show is probably a non-starter, so I can imagine a more music focused breakfast show working well.

Kate's proved herself to be a very competent DJ and is a household name (isn't she?).

When Virgin was originally proposed I'm sure it was only to be presenter led at breakfast (and drive?) and automated the rest of the time, so this seems fairly ambitious. Question is, in a world with Absolute and Radio X, as well as Kerrang and 6music, is there room for Virgin?

How is this station going to make money with well known DJs 7am to 11pm?

Er.......well known names attracts more listeners, more listeners attract advertising revenue, advertising revenue pays the salaries.

But are they likely to get enough listeners to make it pay? If Absolute 80s and Planet Rock struggle to make money with their quite decent ratings, Virgin would have to get much more than them to break even. Although using D2 at least reduces transmission costs.

Now we know the line up what do you reckon the music is going to be like?
Another Absolute/Radio X type rock and indie station?
With a former Radio 1 DJ and Xtra Factor host could it play more commercial music?

Hopefully the latter. There is definately a market for a more commercial less talk type breakfast show.

Have to question the Drivetime choice though.
