Hollyoaks have announced the departure of executive producer Brian Kirkwood.

Kirkwood rejoined the show in 2012 and his big storylines have included the Roscoes, the Train crash, the flat bomb and Patrick and Maxine's domestic abuse.

He has been replaced by Connor and Mitchell, both of whom have experience writing for soaps.

Mitchell's EastEnders reign included the introduction of the Carters and Sharon Watts' big storyline.

Connor run Corrie and had some huge storylines that were well received and won various Soap Awards.

Mitchell commented "I can't wait to take over Hollyoaks, I love the show and we have a lot in store for the loyal viewers!"

Connor added "I'm over the moon to be joining forces with Mitchell and taking over as co-executive producer of Hollyoaks, I love the show and am grateful to be giving the chance to get this show back on the road and become a firm favourite with its loyal fans once again. Myself and Mitchell have already sat down and spoken about our clear vision for the future of this great soap and are working hard to restore it back to something that the fans can be proud of. There are exciting times ahead here Lime!"

Their first episode will be unveiled soon.

Hollyoaks has confirmed the exit of two characters.

Robbie Roscoe (played by Charlie Wernham) and Phoebe McQueen (played by Mandip Gill) will leave the show this spring.

Fans will know the pair have been in an on and off relationship, but will it be a happy ending for the young couple?

Wernham said "My time at Hollyoaks has been fantastic, but it's time to move on, I have some projects coming up including the Bad Education movie, I will miss my Hollyoaks family but its been great!"

Gill commented "I've had a fantastic time on Hollyoaks, but the end of the line has come, I'm very grateful that I am leaving with the door open rather than being killed off!"

Executive Co-producer Mitchell Pothuthic added "Tough decisions have to be made, I think Charlie and Mandip are two fantastic actors, but sadly their characters have come to an end."

Co-producer Connor Electric said ‘I’d like to wish Charlie and Mandip all the best in their future endeavours. The characters of Phoebe McQueen and Robbie Roscoe have come a long way over the last couple of years and the fans will be pleased to know that their exit will be given a happy send-off’.
