Hi all,
My dad has a 32" Sharp - bout 2 yrs old (not sure of exact model number).
Standby light is OK and when u turn it on, the light goes green for about 3 secs then goes back to standby - hence wont come on at all. Anyone any ideas pls? Thx Pete

Once a TV starts doing that there isn't much you can do except get it repaired if under warranty.

Have you tried unplugging it from the mains for 15mins or so?

And need to get it repaired even if it isn't under warranty.

It often costs more than the original purchase price to fix them after the warranty has run out.

I'm sure they do it on purpose so you have to buy a new set. It is nearly always a capacitor that stops working.

It's most probably a cheap Vestel set (pretty well all the smaller Sharp's have been for many years) - most common fault is a S/C rectifier diode in the secondary of the PSU.

They fail because of a serious design flaw, which anyone familiar with electronics wouldn't make

Assuming it is that, then it's a pretty cheap and easy repair.

Cheap and easy for whom? For themselves to repair or for a service engineer call out?

For an engineer, or anyone with minimal electronics skills.
