I have tried to find the answer to my question via BT with no success, hopefully someone here will be able to answer.

I am thinking of moving to BT Infinity for by broadband and have a Humax Youview PVR. Will I get BT Sport on it without subscribing to BT TV?

Thanks

No. You need a BT TV subcription.

As has been said you need a BT TV Subscription to watch BT Sport on a Youview box.

I am assuming you bought your Youview+ box retail then if you are not already paying for BT TV??

If you have a retail box then there is a slight benefit in that you can sign up to BT TV Player Essential without an ongoing contractual commitment. £35 setup then £5 a month for BT Player Essential which also gives you BT Sport on the Youview box over Infinity if you have opted in.

If you are in fact paying for BT TV already at £5 a month (in order to get the Youview+ box) then you will get BT Sport via Infinity if you have opted in.

Excellent quality in SD, exceptional in HD.

In fact, all of the IPTV/multicast channels on BT have far superior picture quality than their equivalents on Sky, including, so I'm told, Sky Sports and Movies.

The picture quality of GOLD is amazing where compared to Sky and/or VirginMedia.

As others have said, the SD picture quality on BT TV's Internet channels (if via Infinity) is better than the equivalent SD channels on satellite or terrestrial TV.

This is because they use the more modern h.264/AVC encoding instead of the old MPEG 2 encoding on the other platforms I mentioned, yet maintain a decent bit rate (~ 3 Mbps). You don't for example get the halo effect on moving objects such as players on a football pitch and compression artifacts in general are less visible (if you are near enough to the screen).
