Morven really irritated me for most of that episode. She is full of anger and so judgemental. I'm sorry but I just don't like her with Arthur. He is constantly minding her and putting her first and he is the one with cancer! It only occurred to her to be nice to him once Daddy dearest got his new liver, up to then he could have dropped dead in front of her and she wouldn't have blinked an eye. Phew, glad to get that off my chest!!

Zosia seems to be struggling with it. Is she afraid he will die and leave her, as her mother did??

Mo came out with at least 3 passive aggressive remarks about Jac. I'm sick of it. She's a two faced wagon. Glad at least that the stent worked. Go Jac!!

Did anyone else notice that the episode was co written by an Elliott Hope.

Morven irritated me incredibly, too. She behaved like a spoilt child for most of the episode. I can, of course, understand her being incredibly upset, but she demonstrated no concern for Arthur until everything had gone her way at the very end and her behaviour in that regard has been fairly consistent in recent weeks.

Even when it transpired that her brother had failed to provide the kidney, it seemed that she was more worried about how that affected her than how it affected her father. It was clear that her Dad wanted to see the siblings get on, yet she allowed him to go into dangerous surgery aware that there was a serious conflict between them.

I note the way both Dom and Zosia noted that the prognosis for Arthur was 'very good' and that Zosia stated that he was going to be 'just fine.' I could be completely wrong about this, and if I am please excuse my ignorance, but I would be surprised if anyone being diagnosed with lung secondaries would be told that their prognosis was 'very good' and moreso that they would be given any assurances that they would be 'just fine.' Certainly every case is different and I am sure that there could still be much positivity and hope of remission, or even some possibility of a cure with treatment, but I think that this is a tad unrealistic. Particularly when this is two Doctors speaking.

Unfortunately, all of this positivity, together with Morven's dad's transplant being a success, makes me more sure that there will be a tragic end for Digby. I would have been more hopeful that it would turn around if we had seen the characters contemplate the possibility that he might not get better.

During all the speculation about why they were running the Austin storyline if it wasn't going to end with Digby being a donor and it being pointed out that was impossible as both Cancer and suicide (suggested at one point) would rule him out. I have been thinking the reason would be that one survived against the odds whilst the other died (like when anybody with a pregnant relative was a goner back in the days of Maternity - the Heart patient would die but it would be okay because their child/grandchild would be born and survive this continuing the circle of life) and now with Austin dying, I'm even more positive that Arthur will die.

Maybe Doctors view these situations differently to non medics? By which i mean, the oncologist hasn't been that positive (I agree they never would be) but they've drawn their own conclusions?

Morven was very aggravating. I understand how you could feel angry with a sibling if you learnt that they had refused to do something you would in a heartbeat to save your parent but she just comes across as a spoilt brat who was stamping her foot because she couldn't get her own way. Even when she was told why he'd been reticent (baby on the way and had beieved another donor would become available) she was still snarky, talking about him not having known this girl long.

Yes, I think Zosia is in denial due to her experiences with her Mother.

I've asked this before but is live liver donation intrinsically more dangerous to the donor than kidney because they have been talking a lot about that, dangers of the operation, recovery time whereas with Jac (and every other kidney donation I can remember them showing) it's always been presented as quite a simple, routine operation with recovery time of a couple of weeks, slthough of course the donor has to be aware of that they no longer have a second kidney to 'fall back on' so would need a transplant or dialysis themselves should they get some form of kidney disease later in life.

Yep, Mo making snide remarks about Jac all episode long for no discernable reason again. She was never like this with Elliot's pioneering projects like Herzig or Kibu (both of which also needed 'guinea pigs' before being approved) was she? Indeed she would, as Jac pointed out, probably have been the one going to Elliot to get their Patient as a candidate if it meant even just a few more days for them.

Had we been told that Bernie had moved out of the marital home and they were on the point of divorce before? He seemed determined to save it the last time we saw him.

It was a sweet story but i find it hard to believe so many people form a friendly relationship with their bailiff.

Yes, I've thought that too. There had to be some point to them running those two storylines concurrently and I've always thought that one would survive whilst the other wouldn't. So sadly it doesn't look good for Arthur.

I had thought they might go down the Arthur as Austin's donor route, but I am very glad that they haven't as it clearly would have lead to serious misinformation being put forward for the sake of a storyline.

I cannot stand Mo or Morvin, I cannot bare how they have been written.

Re: Bernie, at the end of the episode where her girlfriend walked out, she said that she had something to do at home after having a strong shot at the bar. To me that meant she was going to end her marriage. Which to me is a good thing, why stay out of duty. If love has left the table, it's time to get up, be strong and move on.

I really couldn't get past the idea of everyone letting Arthur do whatever he wanted. Sure, let him stick around to support his fiancè, but let him go back on duty when he’s just worked a full shift, and treat his father-in-law-to-be to boot? I take it the NHS strikes don’t exist in Holbyverse.

Yes, I spotted that, but didn't like to say anything in case he has written loads of episodes and I just hadn't noticed before.

I am not a medical expert but can imagine that the body would recover quicker from losing one kidney than from losing a chunk of a liver.

There is a bit on it here, I was surprised at how quick the recovery time is and how soon your liver is back to it's normal size.

Elliot Hope has been around for several years, certainly as far back as Season 9. At first I thought it was maybe a psuedonym for another writer as an injoke but he (she - elliot is a girls name too) has written for other shows (Hollyoaks I've noticed) so I think is real. Maybe Elliot the character was named in honour of them?

I'd missed that comment of Bernie's - didn't really watch last week's properly. That makes sense, she ended it then and he has taken it badly so is being nasty re assets, maybe to try and force her back. Pointless, more likely to make her more determined to split but it is some people's logic.

I agree re Arthur. They do this a lot in Holby - let Doctors/Nurses work when they clearly aren't up to it during illness or when recently bereaved as they insist that the can't cope being at home brooding but is it really safe for the Patients to be treated by somebody in such a condition?

I actually found Morven quite believable, Daddy is her first relationship and might easily take precedence over fiance/brother. The unreasonable anger and childish foot stamping seemed congruent in her desperation to save her dad.

Really liking Bernie, proof that a good actress can bring a character alive with great depth in a short space of time (compare eg Adele).

Mo STILL slagging Jac, come on writers let's see something new and interesting in that relationship please.

Oh I understand Morven and find it realistic. Austin is her 'first love' and more obviously ill and close to death than Arthur so is taking precedence in her concerns. Ot might even be a case of only being able to concentrate on one problem at a time or she would break down. Also, arguably, she can feel some form of control re chasing up the transplant team, attacking her brother when she finds out he is a match whereas there isn't actually anything she can do for Digby except try and get him to rest.

As I said in previous posts, if I were in her shoes, I wouldn't have been prepared to go on holiday and leave my father when he is so ill, even thought that was hard on Digby and i would have been angry with a sibling if I discovered they were a match, could save our father and was hesitating.

So I think it is realistic, it just doesn't make her very nice to watch as obviously, as viewers, our concern is more with Digby than Austin because we've known him longer.

NO!!!!! I think we will have a sad few weeks of viewing ahead. Does anybody who watches not love Digby? I think it may be a fairly rapid decline as they need a reason to have him appear each week, so once he is no longer able to work in the hospital I would say that it will be fairly soon after. Which, in fairness, can and does happen quite often in real life where patients choose to carry on with normality for as long as is physically possible.

PS did anyone else think that Bernie worked much better on AAU than Keller? I think that her and Serena work well together and there was even decent (non romantic) chemistry between her and Fletch. I haven't really seen much of interest in her interactions with Ric on Keller, and with the exception of Dom (who in my opinion works well with every other character!) I can't see much of a rapport with any of the rest of them either. I'm not blaming the character, or actress for this. She just doesn't seem to have very much in common with anyone there.

It always seemed to me that AAU (or A+E) was the logical ward to put an ex field medic on due to the emergency element of it.

Yes I agree I think it's going to be down hill from here for Diggers!! I loved last weeks Trio scenes especially where Dom was having a dig a Zosia for being at Ollies that was great!!!
I think it will hit Zosia the hardest and we will possibly see a relapse of her Bipola. Which will be intresting as Camilla is a fabulous actress. It will be intresting to see how or if Ollie will be there for her. I also think Dom will find it hard too!!

Sorry I this is me being thick but how is AAU different from the Ed? Is it like where they go after?

It stands for Acute Assessment Unit. If it is the same as EAU (which is emergency Assessment Unit and what the one in my local Hospital is where my Mother spent several days both times she was admitted), it is where ED transfer you when they know they can't just treat and discharge within a few hours and you'll need close monitoring and also tests to fully ascertain what the problem is, and therefore which specialist ward you need to be transferred to. Basically, it is an interim ward between Emergency admission and extensive treatment/recovery somewhere like General surgery, CT, Stoke Unit etc.

I feel like Diggers is going to have a sad ending. I can't even bear to think how Dom will react to it. Their friendship is so genuine and loving that I honestly think it's going to hit him the hardest.
