Well i think Arthur needing to 'wait' for Morven to be there to pass on is what Ostiere was referring to when he said the question of whether Digby loved chantelle or Morven more would come up. Answer is Morven, whether we viewers got the chemistry or not.

I liked ethan popping up. It's the same as charlie and Chrissie evidently knowing each other well when he did a cameo or Luc and Dylan sharing the time of day when they ran into each other in the car park a few years ago. They work in the same hospital, people in different departments do need to interact for work, especially ED where they'll need to check diagnosis with specialist doctors before transferring to the correct ward for detailed treatment. Therefore, they will know each other and if they get on, they'll probably choose to socialist and became 'proper' friends. We don't need to have seen it develop on screen between the casualty/HC characters any more than we do the characters on different wards within the show. Fletch and Jonny clearly knew each other the couple of times they shared scenes without us seeing them be introduced, but then as managers of wards, plus being two of the senior male nurses at the Hospital, of course they'd have interacted.

To the episode, yes it was moving and I know Digby has been one of the more successful and loved characters of recent years but I think the silent credits was possibly going a little over the top - it isn't as though it is the first time they've killed a much loved and important character off.

I don't know what is going on with Jac/Zosia/Guy - who is playing who, what is 'tough love' for he greater long term good, who is actually out to harm the other. At this point i'm not entirely sure I care. Zosia did push to be included in the operation though, despite knowing about Digby's party, despite knowing how long it would go on for so don't really see how Jac can be the baddie there. She was samned if she did include her, damned if she didn't.

Who was the last Doctor/main character to die before Digby?

Tara I think and before her Penny? They have been keeping the alive lately. I remember the time Darwin was basically a blood bath...stabbing, suicide. I hope when OlIver, Dom and Zosia leave they let them live

A fitting ending indeed for a beloved character.

Just cried my eyes out - very well done. If any of the actors come on here they deserve a very very big pat on the back - feel like I have lost a friend.

Because that is what they do with some characters. It wouldn't have been his decision. They are killing less lately so it is slightly better and the few deaths they've done have had releastic impacts as in they affect people's lives. Ollie most obviously. I think this will impact Zosia, Dom and Morven in a big way. I think Dom will go for the surrogate family, Zosia will either turn total ice queen or marry Ollie, or have a breakdown (I hope ot I think the grappling with her choices is better) and Morven...I don't know what will happen with her.

That was an almost perfect programme. Not often do I cry in real life when I "should" but the tears ran down my face. Whoever wrote the programme did a terrific job, and the acting from certain people was faultless, I am glad I recorded the programme because I need to watch it again.

R.I.P. Arthur. I salute you, Diggers, Morven, Dom in particular.

Why was Digby so loved on this forum

I thought he was a good character and he played the part well

Just wanted to add my congratulations for a great episode. It was very touching and I was sad to see Diggers go. Not sure whether I would want an audience whilst I took my last breath but it was lovely to see them all there at the end.

Zosia's reaction was heartbreaking and then no music at the end rounded off the sadness of it all.

I managed to hold the tears back until Jac hugged a sobbing Zosia. That, along with Hanssen cradling Arthur telling him it would be okay were the most emotional moments for me. Maybe it was because we are so used to seeing characters like Jac and Henrik devoid of emotions that when they do show a softer and human side it makes more of an impact.

I know for an actor it was a great storyline to go out on, but I desperately wish he had just got a job of a lifetime offer and left that way

But I have to add my congratulations for such a moving episode. I knew it would be sad, but :

For me Holby is the best "soap" by far. Probably because it's just once a week, the quality seems to be maintained.

That was an incredibly moving piece of television. I would go so far as to say it could be the best episode of Holby I've seen. It is definitely one of the best TV exits I've seen.

Rob Ostlere was fantastic. I've never been a Morven fan, but I have to say that Eleanor Fanyinka was also amazing in that episode. In fact, they all were. A stellar set of performances across the board.

I actually cried myself, when Zosia broke down and I never cry at television programmes! I didn't really get what was going on with her and Jac and they were both irritaring me incredibly throughout the episode, but the scene when she broke down was incredibly moving.

They gave Rob the option to leave alive, but he decided to go with being killed off.

best episode of holby in it's history and a truly heartbreaking emotional exit over a fibe second leave in a black cab exit.

As an actor, I am sure being given that storyline was better than any other alternative

Linden was 6 months before Penny, end of season 12 (Oct 10) and Penny was the half way point of season 13 (April 11). There was a point when pretty much everybody left in a coffin (season 8/9 being a particularly bad time with Tricia, Diane, Charles,baby Paris, Owen's wife, Leo, Gina though to be fair, Gina's whole storyline was about her death really) but they seem to have eased up on that now - thankfully. Character deaths do start to lose their impact if done too frequently.

It does have to be said though that they have never done a real, slow fradual decline into death over months. Yes, several characters have had a terminal (or possible terminal) diagnosis given months before their death and we've seen them come to terms with it, degenerate to a degree, have experimental surgery but the end has always actually been quick - either a rapid detioration (like Arthur) donight or them taking matters into their own hands with a 'make or break' operation which went wrong (like Tara), assisted suicide (Gina) or some other, unforseen accident like a car crash (Tricia straight after her make or break surgery was successful so a happy future beckoned). Even Faye's son died due to a mistake in his Meds, not his disease.

Soaps, even a medical based one like Holby, are very squemish about showing a death involving weeks/months of being bed ridden and losing control of bodily functions like incontinence amongst other things.

There is a recent death we've forgotten, Bonnie 2 years ago. But again, she was a character brought in for a 6 month storyline, always destined to die and most people didn't like her so easy to understand people not remembering....
