It was a very good episode. I have a horrible feeling that Jemima might not back up Zosias story

Agree with the person who said it had a who done it feel as everyone left the dinner ..., turns out most of them went to the bar though!

The only thing missing for me was a nod to what is happening with Dom and Issac. At the end of last week he was spending the night on Sashas sofa, this ep he seemed without a care in the world. A line to update the situation would have been good ....

They did mention it. Dom admitted he reason he was stirring things with Jasmine was because he was upset over Issac ho was being an ass or words to that effect.

Ah thank you ... I must have zoned out for a moment during the ep!

With a bit of luck, Jemima will take her passport and run, so even if she's not there to backup Zosia's story, at least she won't be contradicting it either. Of course, this is Holby so it won't be that simple. Perhaps Guy will fall on his sword and take the blame in place of Zosia's.

I think that's what's going to happen. Self will finally put someone else first, and will go out having sacrificed his career to protect his daughter

I've been lurking for ages because I only watch Holby when with parents - but this was a superb episode. Cast, crew and writer gave it everything, and should all be thoroughly congratulated.

There, just wanted to say that.

I loved last nights episode it was brilliant kept me hooked all the way through!!

I am sad that Guy is leaving because I actually his relationship with Zosia.

I do think he goes to protect Zosia.

I like Jas and I am glad she ended things with Ollie. I like scenes with Dom and Jas they have good banter.

As ever, someone needs to tell television shows that not everyone sits around pausing these things and so they really shouldn't have a plot point revolve around some tiny words that are on screen for a couple of seconds. But I think Jason sent a message to Bernie on Serena's behalf saying she misses her.

You are right. Jason texted Bernie, "I MISS YOU" (yes, all in caps!) from Serena's phone. You are also correct that anyone could be forgiven not catching that, given how it was filmed!

It really was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. I guess I blinked at the wrong time! I went back and looked again after I saw your post

I sometimes wonder how many phone contracts the BBC must have for fictional characters!

Spoiler
By the way, Bernie's back on 22 Nov:

Isaac receives a research grant and an assistant position is up for grabs. Lovestruck Dom stoops to low levels to get the job, but will he be successful? Meanwhile, Mo and Mr T's relationship doesn't sit well with Inga and she has to fight for her fiance's attention - especially as she suspects Mo is hiding a huge secret. And when Bernie arrives back at work, Serena does all she can to make it clear she doesn't care at all.

I think Jason has already accepted that Bernie might be in the family unit instead of Robbie - judging from the message that he sent to Berni from Serena's phone!!

how long is Jemma Redgrave staying in Holby? IMO it's a pity that Casualty doesn't have so many fine actors as in Holby!

John Michie is playing a blinder here.

Finally starting to understand Self. Pity they left it this long.

That's what I thought! Wasn't it only a few eps ago that he could hardly walk? Didn't even seem to be struggling to walk.

Sad to see Self go in a way.

Very disappointed they killed Tristan off.

Wanted him to end up in a continuously vegetative state.

Did I blink too slow....... one minute Guy was told by Rik not to go near Tristan, and it seems the next Guy was operating on him. Did he do something?

Didn't like Tristan so glad he's gone.

I think that was a really good ending for Selfie. We got more depth to him at long last and there is hope for him moving forward. Nice touch him trying to make amends to Jac for the Berlin betrayal.

Raf being that woman's sponsor has disaster written all over it.

Sacha and Essie seem to have more chemistry now that they have broken up!!

It was a nice ending for him, I kind of wanted him to tell Zosia that he was wrong about Ollie as they walked away at the end ....

It was a good ep but I couldn't help feeling that killing off Tristan was a bit 'neat'. It provided a nice little solution to the big problem and wrapped everything up very tidily at the end. I was quite intrigued as to what the outcome would have been had Tristian not so helpfully died. But alls well that ends well

Found Raf very irritating in this ep ... not sure why!

I agree that it was a really good ending for Self. I could never really decide whether he was supposed to be a an out and out 'bad guy' with the odd flickering of a heart, or a very damaged character who is ruthless, but ultimately a decent person underneath the layers. In the end, I think we were meant to believe that he was the latter. They tied up the unanswered questions about his character's history well. Also, as I said earlier, John Michie was amazing.

I do agree with the poster who noted that Tristan's death wrapped everything up a bit too 'cleanly.' Also, I do hope there is at least reference to an ongoing court case for Zosia, as it is simply unrealistic that she would be automatically exonerated based on one statement from one witness, when a man died as a result of her striking him. At the very least, the police would just be commencing their investigations and it is much more likely that the CPS would then proceed and that self defence would be used as a defence later, in mitigation. Although, in Holby land, I would not be surprised if the whole thing was just forgotten about now.

I agree that Raf being a sponsor has disaster written all over it, Collins. I am predicting a big storyline in the run up to Christmas and that ultimately we will find out more sinister information about her character. I wouldn't be surprised if she has mislead him regarding her husband's death.

Also, enjoying Sacha and Essie more since their break up. I had actually gone off both of them a bit when they were together. Essie is more like she was when she first joined as a recurring character at the moment. Much more likeable than in recent months!

PS anyone else think that Carli Norris could be rejoining as a regular now that she has left EE? I Have seen a few tweets to her from Holby cast members recently. I did think she was brilliant as Fran and thought it might be a guest appearance, heading towards a regular slot later on.

Holby are definitely in need of a regular nurse on Darwin, given that the only regular nurses on the show are Fletch and Essie since Cara left.

I don't know why, but I was left feeling somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed by last night's episode. It doesn't help that I didn't like and wasn't interested in any of the patients, I suppose, meaning all three of Tristan, the pain-killer-addict woman and the very childish lifestyle-guru woman.

I agree that it was too convenient that Tristan died, although I presume it was supposed to be balanced out by the implication that Self killed Tristan, or at the very least allowed him to die. The problem is we won't witness the repercussions to Self, which contributes to the 'it was too convenient' feeling.

The only mitigating factor in last night's episode was how well John Michie played it. He was, as always, excellent.

I think Rik said he was calling in another neurosurgeon, but perhaps he hadn't reached the hospital before the operation was needed.

I found that a huge disappointment. It feels that there needed to be bigger (or any) consequences for Guy's spinelessness and ruthlessness. Instead, Tristan's death lets him off the hook, made worse by the implication that he let him die. As a result, as Ric says, "Guy Self gets away with it...again." He keeps his daughter, he keeps his reputation. The unit might be defunct but he's still the one in control and will probably start again some day. Maybe we're meant to be cheering, maybe we're somehow meant to sympathise with a character who seems so utterly lacking in moral fortitude. I'm not sure why. The episode presents him with a choice and lets him off the hook, without him ever once doing the right thing. (Well, okay, they had him try and make things up to Zosia and Jac, but only when he's not got anything to lose.) Not saying that the hospital and Jemima aren't better off with Tristan dead, but the whole thing left an unpleasant taste in the mouth. At least we didn't get too much of Oliver.

Found Sacha and Essie's patient irritating and the moral about trying to be something you're not didn't really apply. Don't know why they had Isaac in the episode just to make him a glorified extra. The Raf/Kim storyline does actually intrigue me even though I can see it going very wrong and getting very dark. I think people are exaggerating how bad Kim is, a few weeks ago she was being dubbed his stalker without anything really to justify it on screen, and her story about her husband would seem to be easily checkable. But the whole thing is definitely a moral minefield.

Yes, Tristan's death wrapped it all up very neatly but I, for one, am glad. I don't like panto villains I refer layered nuanced characters. He was your typical "small man syndrome" bully, nasty through and through. Nothing to miss at all.

Although now Ric will be in for an easy time of it as acting CEO with both Tristan and Guy gone, which is a bit of a shame. I like it when Ric is all fired up and passionate about something . Maybe they need to bring back Spence (yes, please!) to get him all fired up again

Guy was not made to suffer any consequences but did the decent thing and resigned. That'll do, for me. He knows he has a long way to go to get back on track and is happy to do whatever it takes. That shows how far he's come, I think.
skteosk
16-11-2016
The problem is Guy didn't seem to resign out of any sense of guilt or contrition, he resigned because it was the best thing for him: He's realised he's not in the right frame of mind at the moment to start his unit but he's probably planning to come back and do it all again. "Do whatever it takes" pretty much sums up his attitude. I'm not convinced he's learned anything morally from the experience, right up to the end it seemed like he was considering selling his daughter down the river to save his career, as evidenced by the way he effectively protecting Tristan from the police coming to interview him. Just about the only hint of him having learned his lesson was his honesty with Zosia, and even then it was probably at least partly to his benefit, so she would know why he turned his back on her and tried to get her to keep quiet. It was deeply unsatisfying on every level.
