How did Zosia go from being a brilliant neurosurgeon to wanting to specialise in cardiothoracics in 5 mins flat?? I think she will help breathe some life into Darwin which is a bit dull without Jac.

I actually don't think it will have been Lucy's mother who caused the injuries. In think there will be more of an unpredictable outcome to it than that.
I reckon as someone else said that she is in for an initial guest period with this patient storyline and will possibly arrive back as a permanent character later on, working on AAU. Holby seem to be doing this a lot lately to see how characters work.

I see from Lisa Marged's Twitter that she seems to be back filming at Holby again so she may well already be permanent. With Niamh Walsh and Ellie Faninka also starting permanently we have a few new characters so I'm wondering if we're going to see some more departures soon? Essie, Hansen and Ollie covered most of those who've recently left, so it's either that or there'll be a slightly bigger permanent cast.

I think self will go come autumn and Ric is pretty much a non member of cast now so that's 2 down. How many actually are there currently

Something that has just crossed my mind - why on earth would Zosia want to be on the same ward as Jesse? Do you think that's why they've shown tension between Jesse and Oliver? So Oliver and Zosia have something to bond over?

Yes we'd have 18 definite perm members but as it looks like Lisa Marged is back filming now it could be 19 which seems a bit high. I also think Guy won't be there past the end of Michie's current contract, although as you say Jac will be back around then. Still think one more person could be going shortly. Weren't there rumours Adele could be leaving a while back?

Yes wondered why Zosia would want to work on darwin when she's got a major issue with Jessie. By looks of things on Twitter Ellie Fanyinka is going to AAU. With Zosia in darwin they'll be busy enough down there so I would have thought Niamh Walsh would be going to Keller. Unless Adele is leaving...

I really don't know where they are going with Ric. Even when he is there he has no proper role and doesn't seem to have a connection with any of the other characters with the exception of Serena. They seem to have him inapropriately involved in a lot of hospital politics such as appointing CEOs just to give him something to do.

An actor tweeting their filming doesn't mean they are 'proper' cast - Ben Hull usually tweets when he is filming but is still on recurring status.

Adele leaving? I haven't heard that! You wouldn't tease me would you? Actually, i don't mind Adele as such, I don't think the concept of the character is flawed or Petra is a bad actress and i didn't mind her when she started, i just mind the way she has been written ever since going to Darwin really. If they just tone down her allways being right she'd be bearable - in fact I'd probably prefer her to the likes of Fletch.

I feel much the same about Adele. I actually found her quite likeable when she was on aau at the start. I think Petra does a good job with what she's given but they need to stop pushing her into viewer's faces as the solver of every problem on Darwin.

I really don't think Fletch's character has worked at all in Holby. Perhaps he might only be there the one year.

Next week's episode looks great - I'm glad that spotlight will be on Ollie's past again.

I may stop watching holby city all together, at the moment I seem to be watching out of habit and only to see if it picks up.

Watching anyone on Darwin at the moment makes me want to turnover. Mo and her dad both need to leave ASAP.. I cannot stand Mo. I feel the storyline is so pointless, family members are normally bought in to a show when the character is leaving in this case it's because she can't stand alone as a character and have a storyline because she is so boring there is nothing to do with her.
They have brought in her sister- still boring
They do a big family day episode- still boring
They then bring I'm her dad- still boring

Also I thought she was a transplant co-ordinater yet all I ever saw/see her do is question Jacs decisions and butt in to jonny a personal life AND try and do these impressive procedures to show off and show that she can be like Jac.

I think Keller needed a shake-up, as I've found that whole set of characters becoming more and more stale as the months have gone on. I think they all need some fresh scenarios to develop, which is why I like the potential of Arthur on AAU, and Zosia moving to Darwin.

Although, Zosia suddenly changing specialists was very random. She's come from wanting to specialise in psychiatry to neurosurgery, and now cardiothoracics!

Having Hanssen back has been exactly what the show needed.

I wish they would use Ric more when they have him. He needs a purpose, instead of floating about the place for a couple of months. How hard would be to give the character a one month storyline whenever he's around? I feel like they don't know what to do with Ric, but don't want to get rid of him, as he's the longest serving cast member, and so allow HQ to take long breaks to do other projects. Now we won't be seeing Ric again for 6 months!

I realise this is probably controversial, but I actually liked Fleur Fanshawe because that's basically what she did, shake-up things in Keller a bit even though she was never intended to be around for that long. I wondered at the time whether TPTB were testing the character out with the aim of her coming back some time in the future, but if she's blissed-up with the lovely Sophia, what's the chances of that? (And I do believe that might just count as another HEA for anybody tallying up the totals of these in show history). But then I'd say that it's actually Darwin that needs the desperate attention right now, so far from its glory days its not even funny! What I wouldn't do for the Queen B enthroned in her proper place on Darwin right about now!

So far, so good - I fear Kent may just destroy Hanssen the longer he is entangled in Holby-affairs - that place just eats people alive! This is what they should have done with Connie in the ED, cool analysis of "this is where you could be better, but hey, you don't wanna do that, no skin-off my nose", unpredictability and far more subtle manoeuvring - proper cat-amongst-pigeons stuff but actually be right most of the time instead of the pantomime villain she has become. Throw-in a comedy photo and everybody's happy!

Once upon a time Ric would have been right in there if he didn't like what a CEO/Director of Surgery/Tealady was up to. It would surely have been reasonably straightforward to add Ric into the background of some Selfie-scheme, stirring the pot from the background here and there, even if its just some other senior character referencing a policy proposal/email/whatever. I mean Sutherland/Michael Beauchamp (there's a blast from the past)/Matrons/random Board-members didn't used to be in every episode, nor did a lot of hospital management on either this or Casualty once-upon-a-time. And at least explain his absences in a more satisfactory fashion - a Professorship somewhere foreign and exotic for example that has an in-built reason for being absent frequently and for prolonged periods. There are too many times I think "so you have deigned to show yourself Hugh, not got anything better to do then I see?" Make up your mind mate, you are either in HC or not, the half-way house doesn't make any sense and if you aren't, at least let them write you out properly, long-term fans deserve that much.

What role has Ollie returned back to? Obviously, as a doctor but what level?

I like the thought of this a lot and I get why she has changed her speciality so drastically. Annabelle gave her the confidence to be a great surgeon, those few wise words from Ric made it all fall into place and she realised her Dad would only hold her back. Sometimes you have to make those cut throat decisions to move on.

Ollie is a registrar. Zosia will be his mentee. Which should drive him suitably mad I think. Strikes me as difficult dynamic to begin with. The over eager puppy and the slightly jaded, joyless Oliver. But I can actually see them as quite kindred spirits. She is a morally nicer person than he WAS but he seems to have grown a moral backbone. It is not unusual for F2s to keep rotating until near the end of F2. So Zosia's time in neuro was quite long. She can still go back to neuro for CT1. Did she do a cardio rotation before? has she ever met Ollie? I will miss the three amigos (who seem just as close in real life) but time does move on and I think Zosia does need to build her own life now. How old is she supposed to be?

Yes, Zosia did a CT rotation very soon after she joined for about 3 months I think. It was when Jac was pregnant, at first Elliot mentored her but she did something (can't remember what but think it was constantly psycho analysing Patients and their Relatives for case studies without their consent or even knowledge) which made him want to get rid of her but then she read chapter and verse of the rule book at him accusing him of bullying so she got to stay but Jac became her mentor and gave her the usual 'tough love' treatment, not taking any crap, forcing her to fetch coffee and spend hours assembling skeletons etc. In time Zosia and Elliot got on okay after he found out about her mother dying and difficult father/daughter relationship.

Oliver must be a fairly Junior Reg - he's been gone less than 2 years and was competing for a new F2 role as he left which I assume would normally take about a year? Then he's worked abroad, not in standard NHS training and then dropped out for several months. I don't really see how this can be anything more than his first job as a Registrar and probably only got it because Elliot will have vouched for him.

So, really not sure he's best placed to be mentoring anybody, especially somebody with Zosia's 'issues' (leaving aside the bi-polar which shouldn't be a problem if the meds are correct) she does get overly involved, doesn't listen to people, goes her own way and is more than willing to break the rules.

They never get the rotations right. Virtually every Junior Doctor, certainly since the Valentines and i think longer has been on at most 2 wards. Penny spent about 10 weeks on Darwin and the other 18 months on AAU, even though CT was the rotation she failed so you'd think she'd have to repeat. Oliver spent his first 9 months on Kellar in GS, then about 9 months in CT (which he failed at) then 6 months on AAU before going back to CT where he stayed for his last 2 years and is now back again. Frieda was only ever on AAU. Digby has been in GS except for a few weeks in Nueros and jist recently AAU. Dom has never been anywhere but GS. Gemma spent her whole year on AAU.

I thought that F1 and F2 were supposed to work in at least a few wards, both medical and surgical so they could get all round experience and also have some practical idea of what they are most interested in (and best at) before specialising after about 3 years which is what Core Training ad the 7 years of Registrar level is for.

They used to move them around a lot more, Dean and his mate both did spells in CT, GS, AAU, Maternity (I think) and even Psych. Yes it meant sometimes they were off screen for a few episodes but it was much more realistic. As was Casualty for the first few years when the SHO would change every season.

He was heading into CT1 when he left and that is two years. So this is his first registrar post. I checked under the new system Zosia now will probably have to continue in cardio but this is TV. Also worked out Zosia is about 26/27 and Ollie about 30. She will drive him mad at first. Hilarious. New Ollie will manage her though. They could be good for each other. Push the right buttons.

An F1 would not day to day be managed by consultant. I think line responsibility would fall to a registrar.

No I agree, it never made any sense for Jac and Elliot to be as hands on with the likes of Tara as they were. Again, that is a change in recent years - when the Valentines were F1s they were mentored by Regs - Joseph, Greg, Jac, Malick. The consultants would oversee to a certain extent, step in if they thought the F1 was struggling or being picked on but that was it. The first 'official' time i can think of a Junior Doctor getting a Consultant was Oliver with Jac when he rejoined Darwin but it was stated he had specifically requested her and since it was straight after Penny dying, his falling off the rails and confessing his cheating to Hansenn, Henrik might have decided to go against protocol because Ollie needed the extra help - plus Jac was the only one of his previous mentors he had done well under so you can see the logic.

Well the fact that at times they have limited registrars may play a part. I think ultimate responsibility for Zosia will now be Hansson and not her father? But in reality she is Ollie's number two. She is going to drive him nuts... I can't even picture them together yet. I wonder how much he will let her away with. But he was in love with her. They really do have corners to knock off each other...unlike most menters who knock corners off their students and not the other way around. It fee!s mutual here. I fear it becoming a negative, nagging relationship to be honest. They both need people to hold their ground with them and push them on. Actually Ollie had been a CT1 for about a year before leaving. I happened to watch an episode from approx August 2012 (soon after Mo had her baby) when Mo is assessing him under exam conditions and she specifically states that he is a CT1. The post he was interviewing against Harry for in June 2013 was the Darwin CT2 post which either ceased to exist or we just never saw the successful applicant after both Harry and Oliver had dropped out of the running.

As I understand it, it is 3 years at Medical School, then f1, F2, CT1 and CT2 so 7 years in all of training assuming you pass all exams and rotations first time and don't have to repeat anything. So F1s should start at about 21 or 22 and the earliest you can become a Registrar is 25 or 26. It is usually then 6 or 7 years specialising as a Reg before you are eligible to take the Consultants exams so the youngest you can become a consultant is about 31 or 32. Which is why it is ridiculous that they have decreased Jac's age - she'd already passed her consultants exams when she started in 2005 (Joseph stated as much) and was interviewing for the consultants position that Nick got against Dian in February 2006. Now that is just about possible with the 1974 date of birth they gave in 2012 (Mo said she was 38 when Jac thought she was pregnant in Sept 2012) but given she said she'd already been passed over several times for promotion several times the 1971 date of birth given in both 5007 and 2010 fits much better.

Oliver started as a F1 in June 2009 so I'd estimate his date of birth as being 1987 or 1988 - especially as we were told he was younger than Penny who started at the same time but had to repeat a year.

Zosia should be a lot younger than the actress is and frankly looks. That's not insulting her, she is very beautiful but she didn't look 21 or 22 when she started, she looked 30ish which is what Camilla is. That's partly why the affair with Jesse never seemed shocking, there looked to only be about 15 years between them rather than the 25 I think there is meant to be.

Can't wait to see tonight's episode I'm glad they're not waiting a long time to delve into Ollie's past.
