It was nice to hear Zosia mention ECMO. My uncle's been on that recently and it pretty much saved his life, so it really deserves some recognition.

They're obviously going to go down a pregnancy route with Essie at some point then.

I reckon a love triangle is brewing between Raf, Lucy and Carla.
Actually think Mr T and Dominic would make an entertaining double act on gynae! |

It's a shame we didn't get to see Ollie put the flower down.

Poor Ollie
Part of me thinks the extreme reaction to Tara... Going to Mexico... Was also a culmination of Penny too. Really he only had two partners in life... His sister (non-sexual obviously) and then Tara. Lost them both. Zosia is way more similar to Penny... Well actually she is very like Ollie. her and Ollie don't seem to hate each other... Li!e was said... Just tension and discomfort there. Like they don't quite know what to make of each other and are quite unnerved being together. He is nothing like the old Ollie. Some ways he is actually nicer. He didn't always treat people fairly before or very maturely. Now he is just cold. Zosia and Adele. Poor Adele. |

At least with cold Ollie there is a reason. I'm so glad Ollie hasn't just returned and forgotten all about his past at Holby. It's refreshing because so often characters are written in a way that's just for the next script, not true to the character. James is doing a great job as Ollie because that rawness is so evident in everything that he does.
This wasn't the anniversary of Tara's death. Surely Ollie would know Elliot would know that. Her Birthday? And Zosia can be the most amazing 'troublemaker.' Doesn't appear Ollie will be able to control her either. But then he used to do that s*** with Jac too. She just needs to grow up emotionally and socially now. |

Yeah it is a real evolution of the character... Which doesn't happen often. Actually they are doing well with Zosia too. Showing her coping well with her bi-polar, taking her meds, dedicated to work, next she is going to give dating/relationship a whirl. Please don't mess it up powers that be.

I thought that was going to develop into Ollie talking about Tara and therefore understanding the pain of losing the person you love (and he wouldn't know about a child because he doesn't have one) and then we'd see a lovely scene of him placing the flower and perhaps a few tears.
But no, we didn't ![]() |

It's beginning to get annoying now how much they are underusing Hanssen since his return. Great and funny as his looms are he deserves much more than that.
Regarding Zosia saying she went all Mean Girls on Adele - Adele started it with her "WE don't want an atmosphere on Darwin" bit. I thought Zosia was remarkably mature and restrained myself!! Poor Ollie indeed. He still misses Tara so much. I like this new Ollie - he is almost Jac-like in his approach. It won't last, he will soon be melted by the Darwin love-in that is Adele, Jesse and Elliot. Pity. I hope they tone down Cara a bit. She is ok, but could get annoying if she keeps on being so in yer face. And I would LOVE Dom to do a rotation with Mr T!! Anything to get him away from the forced friendship with Essie. |

Zosia has come a long way. He doesn't really remind me of Jac to be honest and I don't think it will be the Darwin lot that will melt Ollie, it will be work and a friendship with Zosia. He seems all cold but he has just closed off. I think Elliot was thinking of both their developments putting them together. |

I also agree with your later comment about Mr T and Dominic being a great team. Episode review here |

Ollie's bedside manner is also reminding me of Jac (snappy, cold, clinical, ultimately efficient but not very comforting - he just wants to do the core of the job, plumbing without the touchy feely side) and i think it is deliberate as she was his mentor for years and also he has now had a lot of dreadful experiences in life to close him off, as Jac already had before we met her.
I think it is fairly obvious that it is not just losing Tara (which would have been bad enough) but coming so soon (I consider 2 years to be very little) after losing his sister. It is the double whammy of that which has done it, understandably I think. James is doing a very good job of keeping the history there even if it isn't in black and white on the page. Just something about his body language and of course he has very expressive eyes. Marcel and Luke Roberts also had this gift, to convey so much of their performance (and characters feelings and history) without actually having to say it. To be fair though, i think the scripts are being written more consistently now than say a year ago and if lines about a characters feelings are actually contradicting each other from one week to the next (as they did with Jonny during the Bonnie era) than there is very little the actor can do about it. Guy Henry nearly quit 6 months into 2011 because he was exhausted and if you watch season 14 and 15 it is noticeable he isn't used as much as in season 13. Perhaps a condition of coming back was that they didn't overload him again? |

Yes, it's a Ferreira. I think he even had the same first name. Maybe it comes from not liking Oliver the first time round but where everyone else sees a complex character I see Oliver being a tit again. Zosia was perfectly within her rights to let the patient know the full situation so he could give informed consent to whether or not to have the operation, but crossed a line by telling him his wife's decision, that should have been in confidence and had nothing to do with the issue at hand. I'm glad they didn't have the daughter die anyway, which I was worried about at one point, but the episode seemed to go a bit far in the happy ending stakes with Elliot's casual "Oh yeah, they're both going to be fine." So... did the father not need the operation after all (which doesn't say much for Oliver's clinical decisions)? Or does he still need it but he's strong enough to last until they reschedule? And how tense are things going to be in that family when the mother's effectively just chosen her husband over her daughter?
New nurse! Not a bad start: She interfered a bit too much but seemed self-aware. I get the feeling there's a back story there though, it seemed like she was speaking from experience when she was talking about being in toxic relationships. (And is maybe still in one, given the mysterious phone call?) I notice the counsellor was listed as recurring. I'm disappointed Clifford's been taken in this direction: The character's essentially likable but it feels like it's being set up for him to let Mo down and get fired with all the dodgy dealings. Is it worrying that I didn't remember who Mr Thompson is until he actually appeared? I always think of him as Derwood or Mr T, kind of forget what his surname is. Anyway, some nice comedy stuff for Dominic. Indra Ove there as the expectant mum, who among other Casualty/Holby roles had a recurring part as a social worker in Series 8 and 9. |
