Thinking about it logically, there must be competition for even Junior Registrar roles - one won't just become available because the Junior doctors you've had, have qualified if for no other reason than they must be a higher pay grade. I would imagine each departments budget will mean they have the money for a certain number of each level, Consultant, Registrars, CT 1 and 2s and F1 and 2s. They probably have the budget in place to assume that each doctor will get through the foundation and Core training over a 5 year (more or less) period with accompanying pay rises and for them to bring in new F1s to replace them but given that (as i understand it) people will be Registrars for at least 7 years, it really can't be assumed that they would mmove up to the next level for there just to be 'natural wastage' to allow newly qualified ones an opputunity. Plus, as they do, as well as the qualified that are already in the Department, there will most likely be external candidates simply because the jobs are rarer and candidates will be willing to move to fet work, especially on certain 'firms' with a good reputation.

I think they get funding for the F1 etc because they can only be in certain hospitals that can teach them. Registrars move around a lot... Esp if you arena surgeon and it is rare, but not unknown if is a prestigious hospital, for some one to stay in one hospital. F1 and 2s are basically training but CT1 have chosen a speciality and I am sure the hospitals would try to keep them as registrars.

For whatever reason, very possibly the various nods to the past, that was the first enjoyable episode of Holby in a while. I've actually turned off half way through the past few weeks

There has been no announcement and i would say not. They covered that she had 'fallen in love' with Pakistan and also wants to make a difference without all the Politics of the NHS (the reason she left in the first place) so would imagine she would return there.

I also believe the actress is concentrating on other things these days. I think she probably did it as a one off as a favour for Paul Bradley's exit - the same as Marcel coming in to film one episode in the middle of her maternity leave.

An article i saw late spring said that she was filming a cameo in July before she returned full time in August. No whether that was early or late August i don't know, But I'd say she'll be back properly within 8 weeks, probably more like 4 or 6.

It rather depends if they need her to be single for other relationship storylines. If they do, then yes, no choice but to split them up (although they could have revealed in a slightly gentler (for want of a better way of putting it) way for those people that did follow the relationship for 3 years. But, if they don't intend to run romantic storylines (and they didn't for (he 18 months between Joseph and Jonny for Jac) then she could have still been attached to Jonny without us seeing him.

Yes Michael Thompson has left but they knew that before they filmed the 'Janny' exit and that is the point I was making. I can't really see why they bothered if they were going to end it like this. I had thought when they'd gone to her bother they'd have kept him as an off screen partner when Jac came back.

I agree completely - they knew MT was not coming back so putting Jac and Jonnie together again was a waste of time and energy. I never liked them as a couple but that aside I could not be bothered about their "reunion" because I knew it was never going to last.

They should have just left separately, but I suppose TPTB wanted to show a softer side to Jac but poorly thought out, I think.

Whilst i didn't find the reconciliation as hasty as some as i do think that extreme situations (like being wrongfully imprisoned and nearly dying and having an ex go through that) can make you reevaluate your life and feelings very quickly and it isn't as if they didn't know each other so could dispense with the 'dating' part - it does feel like an unnecessary waste of time if they had already decided that no character can/should have an off screen partner as they knew Marcel was returning and Thomson wasn't.

You see, I'm not sure that they would need a new romantic partner for Jac, at least not for a while. As i mentioned earlier, there was a gap of nearly 18 months between Joseph leaving and Jonny starting when Jac had no romantic storylines. Even prior to that, there were a couple of spells of about a year when Jac was also alone and not even sharing 'snarling', let alone 'romantic' scenes with Joseph. She is a character that is strong and complicate enough to just concentrate on 'work' and 'power struggle' storylines.

Even if they did finaLly decide to introduce somebody for her (or reintroduce Joseph) they could either have mentioned then that she and Jonny hadn't worked out or even have her feeling guilty and torn (which would increase the drama) because she was attracted to somebody else whilst he was at home - similar to Sahira with Greg.

Just splitting them up, off screen, after less than 6 months after their reunion seems pointless and somewhat annoying.

I also think that it is short sighted from a real world point of view as should Rosie Marcel have another baby quickly (and from interviews it seems she wants one) they could have just written Jac out easily by saying she was pregnant to Jonny again and actually taking her second maternity leave at the usual time - ie from about 8 months pregnant for several months.

Yes I just can't work out why they did it to be honest. Whilst I was not particularly a fan of the coupling, I think it was very unfair on the fans who had invested in the relationship to build it up like that to not even have it last six months and fall apart off screen with no explanations.
I wonder now if they were concerned that Rosie Marcel might change her mind about returning post maternity and as a result wanted to give her some type of resolution story just in case she didn't.
If this was what they were planning the whole time then it would have made much more sense to have focused on them resolving their relationship as good and supportive friends and co parents. Jac could have taken the deferred maternity to repair her relationship with Emma, whilst Jonny could have left work at holby separately and agreed to support her as a co parent.

Adele hasn't changed a bit, still as insufferable as ever. And Cara is dull, dull dull.

I found Adele slightly more bearable for about 5 minutes. Then she started up with screwing basic stuff up re Transplant rules and despaired again. Also, sorry, but she isn't a very convincing when crying. On a shallow note, she looked nice with her hair straightened and more muted make up.

Yes, I had hopes for Adele initially but she reverted to type pretty quickly over the transplant situation. I do like her new hair and toned down make-up though.

Cara's SL was good enough but I just find her dull as a character. JL is always typecast as the bad boy so I didn't find him very exciting tbh.

Elliot removed from the credits seemed like a pretty clear message. Some bones finally added to Cara's fairly thin character and perhaps a justification for why she's remained an enigma for so long. I'm enjoying her getting more screen time but can't really get involved in the storyline: It feels like her husband's only a short-term character, especially if Nicole's insinuation is taken at face value.

Another thumbs up for Adele's new hair and I actually didn't think she was too bad this week. She did at least have a reason for getting over-involved and she seemed to bend the rules slightly rather than trampling all over them. (Hands up any long term fans who went "Oh, it's Kerri's mum.") The transplant storyline, the unlikelihood of two sets of matching lungs suddenly becoming available aside, went quite well and it's good to see Essie branching out.

The ending seems to suggest that Sacha was right and Jesse needs to learn to be a team player yet...Firstly, Sacha cancels an operation without following protocol and without consulting or even telling the assigned anaesthetist, so isn't he the one not being a team player? Secondly, if a patient wants to decide whether or not to have an operation by tossing a coin, that's entirely his right. It is not Sacha's place to snatch the coin from him in a huff and cause him to rupture his abscess and render the whole thing moot. Thirdly, Jesse's plan worked perfectly with no hiccups apart from a bit of clowning so...doesn't that mean he was right?

They put Guy in the episode just to silently sit at a bar eyeing up Fran?

I thought Adele was marginally better (not much, but something is better than nothing). Love her new hair, which suits her way more than the big hair that did nothing for her. LOL, I think she's been upstaged by her hair.

I like Cara, and I think there's a lot of potential there. While Jody Latham is a good actor, I didn't find his performance credible. It wasn't nuanced enough for a man who is supposed to be undercover, or charismatic enough to fool Cara into believing his lies. Something was just not right.

I wish they would update the opening credits. Just removing Elliot and leaving in the background shots is quite jarring. Is Fletch still in the opening? They've not addressed on screen if he turned down that job or if he's left.
