I think it went downhill when Kent took over. The man also has no interest in the opinions of people who actually watch the show. He actually blocked me on Twitter for askING a question about Jac. Apparently he does this a lot. Sadly I don't think there will be much improvement whilst he is in charge

They'll get DTC to take over next then all the characters will find out they're related to each other or have secret children they didn't know about

Sadly, about the spoiler - yet another case of the team grabbing hold of a logical concept and executing is so appallingly badly that we the humble viewer is driven to distraction. I can see where they think they are heading, but its done so badly that I actively dread actually arriving there.
Kent doesn't need to do anything so no doubt ego-denting as read what the little, inconsequential people who actually watch his programmes think. The BBC is still employing him and giving him other responsibilities if his involvement in From Darkness recently is anything to go by - from his point of view, job well done. He apparently knows better than the rest of us, continuity and character consistency are inconvenient and Adele is the second best thing to happen to Nursing, after a white-vested thug downstairs that is. The only thing that will make a difference is a massive drop in audience share very suddenly and even then it'll still be us in the wrong and them in the right. That is an incredibly unhealthy way to approach making television. You can't allow yourself to be dictated to by the fans, but if a character or storyline really isn't working for your audience, you should take immediate steps to correct the problem or even end the storyline or remove the character if it can't be salvaged. Having the guts to face a problem when your audience differs from the way you thought something was, assessing where the disconnect might have occurred and addressing their concerns either on-screen or by other means (say interviews, an open letter on social media, in-person Q&As etc.) is a good place to start. This isn't a novel. It's not a static thing. It changes depending on many factors including the availability of funds, assets, cast, crew, writers, locations etc. and I suspect, while wishing no personal ill-will and acknowledging just how difficult running a television show is, this is a case of a man being promoted above his level of competency - certainly not the man to oversee the 30th anniversary of Casualty, the difference in quality between Paul Unwin's Charlie-tastic two-parter and the vast majority of the Kent Era on both shows is terrifying, I am really not looking forward to what's coming in either show one bit and based on how things are right now, you have to wonder whether Holby City will even be around to celebrate Year 20. |

![]() Whilst there will always be affairs between the characters in shows like this, it is primarily a work based drama and there shouldn't be so many, pre existing links between characters in my opinion |

Definitely a better episode than the previous two weeks. (The Cara stuff was pants by the way! I just haven't really cared for the previous episodes.)

I'd like to know how Adele can suddenly be nursing without doing any training. Pretty sure she hasn't done the required 3 years.

Regarding the, erm, change in the show's quality post-Series 15, I'd suggest that it's no coincidence that it corresponds almost exactly with the departures of Justin Young (head writer) and Jonathan Young (executive producer), and the rise of Oliver Kent to exec producer...

Didn't she start a nurses training programme after being encouraged by Jonny to do so? She failed some exams earlier in the year, I assumed they were part of that??

Yes, to be fair she has been doing a Nursing degree complete with on site training since Summer 2014. Still way too early for her to have qualified but it hasn't come from nowhere and it is hardly the first time they've had a character pass exams and gain promotion much too quickly compared to real life - 18 months compared to 3 years.
Oops mustn't give them ideas. |

I think with Cara it's believable that she's just quite private and doesn't like to talk about her personal stuff on the wards. It's consistent with what we've seen of her so far. The only times we have actually found out anything about her is when it has been forced upon her and she hasn't been able to avoid it. She evidently confided in Raf, but I don't get the impression that she has talked about it to the rest of her colleagues - and as Raf wasn't there, it's quite understandable that she just got on with the job without it being mentioned. Some people are just good at looking like things are fine when actually they aren't.
Mo, on the other hand, generally tends to be quite a gossip, so that one can't really be defended. |

" Former Coronation Street and Hollyoaks star Peter Mitchell lands Holby City guest role
No details yet on who his character will be, though." This is an article DS has posted THIS!

I just caught up with Holby as I was behind a few episodes.
Whoever told Raf to whimper when he was attacked? Maybe that's how it would be in reality...thankfully I'm not familiar with that level of violence. But it was uncomfortable to watch and made the character look weak. |

There is an interview with Simon Harper in this week's Inside Soap. Can't get to the spoiler tab bit easily on my phone so won't go into details but I will say that nothing in it encourages me to think it will be improving much in the next few months and for those of you that remember my predictions as to why they've split Jac and Jonny up re what she'll be like when she comes back, i think I was absolutely right. I have given some details as to the jac elements over on her thread in Soaps Appreciation if anybody wants to look.

![]() They split them up because the actor left and is not coming back, so keeping up the pretence off-screen would just end up being a nonsense. I think Jac will have lots of conflict on her return, especially with Guy/Fran and Mo/Adele. But that's nothing new. It's part of who she is. The DS interview said that

Yes i know what the DS interview said but I'm a little worried that is just backscreen info which won't be revealed on screen.
I really do think that they have done it partially so they can have her be a bitch with little depth and do still think they could easily have had him be an off screen presence with the odd line (see her on the phone when alone for example) or just not have him be mentioned at all. I just fail to see why they would be going for an "all black wardrobe" (something in the interview i really don't think is spoilery) unless it is to donate her frame of mind and attitude. Though i'm wondering why they don't just turn her office into a replica of the Death Star and have done with it. I know Jac has always been a bit of a bitch and doesn't really need an 'excuse' but generally we have seen another side through interaction with at least one other character she let's in a bit and i'm failing to see where that will happen now. But time will tell - everything i hear makes me surer it's going to be bad though. |

I am hoping that Sacha and/or Ollie will step up and support her when needed. Hanssen might be supportive, too. Here's hoping, anyway

Yes, that is my concern. In the past there has nearly always been at least one person that she either would (rarely) willingly let her guard down with or who cared enough to watch for signs of distress and dig a little deeper (Joseph, Jonny, Elliot, even Spence or Connie) and I just don't see who that can be now as Oliver will be on Zosia's side in amy dispute (as he was with Tara) and she is likely to side with Guy and Mo both of whom are likely to clash with her and Sacha, as well as being on a different ward, is entangled with Essie, who is Fran's best friend who will also be 'Team Guy'.
Hansenn is the only possibility really, especially after Elliot metaphorically passing the father figure torch onto him but he is hardly touchy/feely is he. Yes, the black clothes could be a 'game face' type thing - almost a professional 'costume' rather than a true depiction of her state of mind and heart but how will we know if we do,'t see a different side? However, not all the interview is about Jac obviously. He also talks about Poaul Bradley's leaving, which characters he'd like back and upcoming plots for several characters like Ollie, Zosia, Adele, Mo, Digby, Morven, Bernie (new character played by Jemma Redgrave), Fletch, Raf and the planned involvement in Casualty's 30th Anniversary. |
