I definitely think that Fran's reaction to Jac is more than just recognising her on a work basis. I actually think that the reference to her interest in cardiothoracics may have been an indication of an obsession with Jac, but I could be wrong about that.”

Maybe she developed an obsession with her in the past, hence the passion for cardiothorasics, the red hair and the relationship with Selfie!!

Thank goodness Joseph is tucked safe away in the sticks!!!!

What is Fran's problem with Jac?
Ever since Jac returned Fran has been looking for a fight and she has one where she is playing fire with fire and with the trailer look like it won't end soon

I think the theory that something happened while they were in a care home may be true. Perhaps they were friends there, and when Jac or Fran left the home perhaps Jac didn't keep in touch and Fran is upset about it

I find Fran's character really annoying. Could be Jac's unknown half sister or maybe she is a bit psycho as Jac and Mr Self used to be together and is jealous.

The only thing about Fran only having started in CT due to an obsession with Jac is that Jac hasn't always been CT. She was GS for much of her time in ths show and had spent long enough specialising in it prior to her joining Holby to be qualified as a Consultant in that area. Also, if Fran was that obsessed to almost be stalking her, modelling her career on Jac's, why would she have checked. That it was her when she first saw her a couple of weeks ago i surely she'd know what she looked like for sure before that? Also, Jac;s relationship with Self seemed to be news to her last week.

I fo think there is a prior link but i do,'t think Fran has been obsessed with her all these years. She has just recognised her now and it has brought buried problems, resentments, issues to the surface.

Also, without wanting to be really pedantic, the flashbacks in 2010 showed Jac as having had dyed black hair through much of her time in Care - but they'll probably forget that.

From this week's Popbitch .. interesting

Quote:
“>> Soulby City <<
Hugh's a vocal critic

Actors have been grumbling
on the set of the BBC's
medical drama Holby City
about the quality of the
scripts they've been getting.

One of the most outspoken has
been actor Hugh Quarshie (who
plays Ric Griffin on the show).
He was overheard saying to the
director:

"They're writing pop music
lyrics. You don't get a soul
singer to do a pop song."”

Totally agree. Haven't liked her since day one when she was the way she was with Sasha. Silly &$&!

The 2 I'd like to see together more than any others are Raf & Cara....

I would like to see them together too. Although last week's matchmaking shenanigans made me think that there could well be a Cara, Raf and Fletch love triangle ahead!

Oh no not another love triangle. The one Raf was in last time was tedious, lol.

More of Serena, Digby, and Jac instead please

I think you could be right about Raf, Fletch and Cara.

Had to laugh last week at fletch lecturing Digby about how no widower could be okay just 'going on' like the Patient was. Which is a fair assessment and one fletch could have made from however many years of human observance, especially as a Nurse. But i think Digby (and we) were meant to feel Fletch had extra insight due to Natalie's death.

Except that Fletch did behave as though nothing had changed, going out, being happy and jolly and it wasn't implied it was diiie to with held grief as he never had a cathartic meltdown about missing Natalie. All the after math came from his financial worries and his children (primarily Evie's) grief at losing her Mum - not fletch losing an (ex) wife.

Which is as it should have been. Not saying he didn't care at all, as he said the episode she died, he did love her once so obviously there would be sadness but they weren't a couple anymore and his children were the main priority.

Bit different to a man losing the woman he still loved after 60 years and without children to share his grief with.

Re Fran souding like Jac, that could be a reference to them both having slight London twangs (though Fran's is much more pronounced) which would tie into Jac saying she'd lived in London as a child back in 2007 (when Spence first turned up they have a conversation) but again, that seemed to be retconned in 2010 when we discovered her Grandfather lived in Bath, implying she was from the South West but we have since been told she did her medical training in London - Barts to be precise

I have Aspergers and mental health issues. I do like it when Holby and Casualty have autistic characters as it raises the profile of autism. I hope the BBC have autistic characters in other programmes

I liked the fact that they portrayed the dispute between Fran and Jac as a non-black and white issue. When I read the episode blurb I thought 'same old, same old', expecting it to portray Fran as fundamentally in the right and Jac as fundamentally in the wrong, but it wasn't like that. I did think that Jac's bedside manner could have been a little better (she herself admitted that) but as others have said, she doesn't have time to spend all her time on one patient. In fairness to her, she did at least attempt to speak his language - she saw that he was a man of facts, so she explained to him her background and the statistics involving surgeons performing that procedure, and it seemed to convince him at that moment. If it wasn't for the fact that his commitment to his TV show overrode that, I think that conversation would have worked. (I have actually wondered if Jac herself may be mildly autistic - she's incredibly focussed to the point of being quite tunnel-visioned and her social skills lack something, and that is generally put down to her upbringing, but they are things that are classically on the spectrum. But personally I prefer to consider each of someone's personal attributes as just being a characteristic of that person that they cannot be blamed for - I feel that calling it a result of a condition is quite dehumanising.)

Likewise, although Fran was kind to him, I appreciated that she wasn't held up as being perfect. It was specifically shown that whilst trying to help that patient, Fran neglected her other duties and Zosia had to pick up the pieces. I also find it interesting (I only noticed this on a re-watch) that in the pre-episode flashback, they don't show Jac being blunt with anyone, they show Fran bitching about her - to me, that portrays Fran in a more negative light than Jac.

I see that the spoilers for 29th December are up and that:
Spoiler
Ric returns, but is unsettled until Adele puts him right. Honestly!!! Now We are going to have Adele bossing the most senior consultant in the hospital around. w

I think we have to conclude that Adelle is being written this way deliberately and it is meant to be annoying. I'm not sure if it was always the intention, but her bossing of senior staff is so regular now that it has to be. Makes sense as to why she had to be moved to Keller though. Whilst she could get away with patronising Eliott, Jac would never put up with it. Sasha and Ric are more likely to.

I also see that re Mo and Mr T, my earlier prediction that he would
Spoiler
offer to have a baby with her
is to happen. Cue months of more misunderstandings between them!!

Oh dear, Saint Adele strikes again!! Honestly, could they make this character any more patronising/annoying??

Adele should get together with Jacob in the ED (Casualty) - they would be perfect together. They could take over the whole hospital and run it between themselves

The Mo and Mr T stuff could be good.

Yes, I've commented before that Jacob and Adele would be a perfect match. Both no show no respect for authority, both constantly think they know best, both are usually vindicated as having been right with their gut instinct so are not reprimanded for not overstepping their remit and I think we (the audience) are meant to think they are wonderful.

As much as I dislike Fran, there must be some sort of backstory to justify her behaviour.

Did not see the gold-digger thief of a partner coming

Fran Reynolds has serious issues but there is something causing her to go on a woman crusade against Jac. That clip after the credits implied a suicide attempt yet during the preview trailer a while ago I got the impression that Fran is going to kidnap Jac's kid

Does anyone else get the impression that Fran and Jac don't like each other very much? I'm not sure why I think that... it's just a slight coldness between them sometimes. Rosie Marcel and Carli Norris are handling it really well - I'm glad we're not seeing anything beyond an occasional lowering of Jac's voice or a raising of Fran's eyebrows. It makes a nice change from all the big animosities that these soaps always do.
