They might keave it a couple of weeks and then they can replace at least 2 of them with Hansenn and valentine. They might put Nina Wadia in as well even though it is a short term stint.

Well that seemed pretty definate to me that jac and Jonny are a couple and living together. My first guess of their last scene just being with elliot and Mo was right then. The Hansenn thing would have been nice, so would an appearance by Sacha as Jac's best friend. But it seems clear they aren't actually leaving Holby and will be reguarly visited bu their friends so that's fine. It also sets it up for jac returning without Jonny. They don't have to split, they can just say he is looking after Emma or at another Hospital.

I'd have preferred that Guy had been forced out as a result of his cocking things up rather than it being an inevitable part of reaching 'supercentre' status but hey ho.

Harry and MC was sweet but i've never really invested in their relationship (sorry) so that last bit with Janny was what gave me fuzzies.

"The worrying thing is I quite like the man now,"says Elliot near the end of the episode. The worrying thing is we're probably meant to like him too. So this ruthless tyrant who's spent months putting people through hell for the sake of his narcissistic vision doesn't really want the power and just wants to go back to being a surgeon? After abusing his position to set up a grandiose job in a self-congratulatorily self-named clinic for himself, naturally. I was willing for Elliot to stick to his guns, keep turning down the job and let Guy's lies catch up with him rather than make a last minute save so Guy gets sacked and maybe either Mo takes over or someone new comes in. (Or Anton Meyer comes back? Hey, we all need a dream.) Darwin's looking a bit bare anyway. Guy actually makes the prospect of Serena as CEO seem bearable, she's probably improved from the last time she went for the job. Since when did Ric spend his days following Guy around doing admin?

The Sacha/Essie stuff was nothing special. Sacha having a one night stand would have felt very out of place (although isn't that how he met Chrissie?) so glad they didn't go there. I'm kind of glad they're together but not really excited about it.

Ditto Harry/Mary-Claire, although his turning on the fairy lights was a laugh out loud moment. Still, nice to see a happy ending somewhere, complete with Norman and the promise of Harry getting to see his son. Arthur in 50s gear worked surprisingly well to the point that he didn't really seem like a figure of fun.

And yes, a nice tag scene with the old Darwin line-up together for possibly the last time, and Jac and Jonny staying in Holby so he can be around off screen when/if she comes back. Their relationship status could be interpreted either way. Anyway, it provided a proper handing of the torch from Jac to Elliot, possibly with the promise of handing it back or sharing the role at some future point.

Guy is also meant to still be in love with his dead wife from showing him touching her photo. No doubt that was to elicit empathy too.

I do hope that Jac hasn't totally burnt her bridges walking out the way she has and losing the CT position. Can't imagine the American Herzig people being overly impressed (they were the ones initially against elliot) or the Panel that awarded them super centre status.

Yes good to see her finally priorities family/love over professional but not to the cost of her career forever. Though that would be par for the course with Kent. He seems to think women can only have one or the other judging from the treatment of Jac and Connie.

Ric being the Admin person would explain were the ruddy hell he has been for the past year or so.

Of the possible existing characters that could have the qualifications for CEO, Serena is the only one i can see being willing to give up clinical duties. Elliot certainly wouldn't, can't see Ric being willing to either.

Unless of course they just go straight for the obvious candidate and offer it to Adele. Who will of course be wonderful at it despite having no qualifications or experience.

I was definitely more moved by the Harry and Mary Claire ending tonight. Obviously because I was more invested in them as a pairing, but also because I felt the Jonny and Jac storyline had been pretty much resolved as far as it could be last week and tonight was really only finding out where they were geographically for me.

It makes sense that they are staying around Holby. I always thought they wouldn't send two couples off to the USA at the same time, as the endings would just be too similar. Although I can't help but think that if Jonny is going to be around Holby anyway with their relationship continued off screen, why did they not just do this with Jac and Joseph??! To me he was always the ideal for Jac.

I'm glad everything was resolved in a positive way though. Glad to see holby giving so many characters happy endings!

Actually one of the other interesting choices for boss in the Queen B - had Casualty not just spent the last year systematically destroying her and making believing in her virtually impossible.

I would love to see Serena as CEO for real at some point. Obviously not right now as I am v excited re the but I do think she'd be great. Steely yet compassionate.
Someday I really hope they take Connie back to Holby and make her CEO. But only if she goes back to being Holby Connie and not Casualty Connie!

Yes Connie would have been an obvious candidate, for CEO and also to mive back to head up Darwin and super Centre. If 'image' is so important as it seemed to be to the Yanks, then Connie is a much better fit on face value than Elliot.

But, as you say, they've spent the last year systematically destroying her.

Much as i loved jac and Joseph, more than Jac and Jonny really although i do think they have great chemistry too and would have loved Joseph to remain an off screen partner

Basically Jac was in a different place character wise 4 and a half years ago. She hadn't got what she'd strived for professionally (she was made consultant until after he left) and they still needed her to have the 'edge' that you only get when you have nothing in your life but your work. If she'd been content personally, they just wouldn't have been able to run the storylines they did with her at that time, backstabbing Sahira and making constant digs about her not being able to do career and wife/mother, making a deal with Spence to stay on if platics replaced CT as Darwin's speciality, thereby betraying all her colleagues. Etc, etc.

A few years of having the career she wanted (consultant) plus having a baby has mellowed her and changed her priorities in a way that couldn't have happened back then - no matter how much she loved Joseph.

I'm very excited as well. The CEO position has always been extremely difficult, I think, because its quite a limited role and the character can get boring very fast. However,

the fact that Arthur trades in My Little Ponies - of course he does (is there no end to this mans talents) - but is definitely NOT a (?)bronie!

the unicorn mention (and the whole pony thing actually) because anyone who follows Niamh on Twitter will know that she is OBSESSED by all things unicorn, and a special mention for that 'shut the front door' (even if - Harry's reasons for acting like such a one did seem a bit misguided)

the simplicity and truth behind Jac's exit - the queen REALLY is on maternity leave!! (although I'm not sure if you actually can defer your maternity leave for over a year, and certainly wouldn't have thought you could arrange it overnight)

Sacha and Essie getting together (and the thought of Sacha in a strip-club )

and the fact that Jac is Connect 4 queen (as well as queen of everything else!!)


but:

much as i loved seeing Guy being brought low did think Elliott's choice of venue was more than a little misguided - I can't think of many worse places to have a go at someone than in an operating theatre when they're performing inticate and demanding surgery on someone's brain actually. And on those same lines really can't see someone as experienced and talented as Guy 'flipping out' like he did tonight when the monitors were beeping!! And lets not even get started on him going from 'an idea' to a fully-funded, contracts written neuro-centre in the time it took him to walk from the HDU on Darwin (and have to say the least I'd expect after having brain surgery is a few hours on ICU) to the board room, and the less said about the Guy Self Centre for Nuerology and Neuro-Surgery (except for 'does the man's arrogance have no end') the better!

and will really miss seeing that little girl who has been playing Emma - she's been one of my highlights of the last few months

The sheer awesomeness of a smirking Connie arriving fresh from somewhere exotic and interesting, stalking about in Louboutins and a killer suit ordering people around with her usual confidence and then casually dropping into conversation with a departing Jac that she was the new CEO would have been too brilliant to even contemplate! Poor Diggers would be crapping himself in terror in minutes! (Can you just imagine what she'd say about his extracurricular activities? Priceless!) Just about the only person (other than the audience) who would be happy about her return would be Elliot! To quote MC "shut the front door!"

I can certainly subscribe to your theory kitkat, its certainly amongst the most logical out-there. Some people do relax when they have little/nothing left to prove, find a groove and suddenly things slot into place. Why not Jac? Which is of course the exact opposite of Mrs B - who has everything to prove (for a start that she isn't deranged for even attempting the change of specialism that late and that drastically in her career no matter what the motives and especially for the next couple of weeks) and is patently miserable and thus is a Deep Dark Vortex of Despair and Unpleasantness (there are a few reviewers at Radio Times who patently loathe her - this week's review savages her. Fist-pumps in bloody deed! No way in the good old days would anybody have ever described her as "the world's worst boss" and lived to tell the tale!) Interesting contrast there given their paper similarities.....

Given that we can expect Jac to back eventually, God only knows whether anything will last, particularly under this production team. I hate to be negative, but so help me God if she's miserable, and we can't count it against them not to have destroyed everything off-screen for for pure shits and giggles (case in-point their total destruction, completely off-screen, of the good relations after years of fighting to get there between the Queen and Sam), I may just give up on this whole bloody franchise! And I've watched this since Season 2!

And I am beginning to doubt that Serena will ever get the top job, which is a real shame in a lot of ways given how much she wants it and that she's become a real favourite of mine over the last couple of seasons.

I agree about the CEO role being a tricky one. The best Trust management figure, other than the Great Giant Swede, to my mind was Jayne Grayson. I was proper displeased when she left!

Yes, Elliot having a go at somebody (anybody, no matter how much they deserve it) whilst they are operating on somebody beggars belief.

Jonny's 'move' was incredibly stupid, he could easily have blocked her off making that 4h connect!
Emma is an incredibly cute, alert and yet docile little girl isn't she. I'll miss her too.

I loved the references to unicorns, purple, my little pony and shut the front door. Thought it was lovely that it was so personally written for Niamh.

Harry's reasoning for going awol re making her hate him, was a tad silly as was him 'not being ready' to go to Chicago a fortnight ago, but suddenly being ready without question tonight, but I was prepared to ignore it for the ultimate happy ending.

Loved Arthur tonight!! I do think that Ric Griffin should have been in MC's last scenes at the party. He had a lot to do with encouraging her in her career and despite the conflict between them at times there was a mutual respect by the end.

I actually didn't mind the way they dealt with Self standing down as CEO. In a way it made sense. Given the type of character he's been built up to be you couldn't really have him just go back to being an ordinary consultant. He needs to have some position of power to fit with the character and create conflict with Hansenn. The neuro centre idea makes sense. Even though I really dislike him I think
It was probably the most logical way to deal with his stepping down when he is to remain in the show.

Jac and Jonny together still leaves their central isues intact - as neatly summed up by Jac last week. Not a couple seems to have become a couple very quickly, or hasn't it?

Jac's been convinced by a few days with Emma to alter all her priorities?

Why is Jonny off if he's reconciled with everyone in the department, and Self has gone? It was set up more for him to come back, while Jac took maternity leave - but he's off somewhere?

How does she come back if Jonny vanishes? Is Jonny never seen again?

What happened to the US job only Jac could do?

Jac has taken her deferred maternity leave - which means she's coming back. But Elliot seems to have her job , with no suggestion he's temporarily filling it., and an implication its been taken while she was on maternity leave - which looks illegal.

Elliot has the herzig back - but it was only talken away from him because the buyers thought he was a bumbler. He still is. It still needs selling and people in the US need training - so who else can do that? And he has the kibo to develop as well ???

Elliot has the department back - but the theme in several weeks has been that Jac does the job better.

Whats happened to the successful bid to be the major regional centre? The two people who seem to have written the proposal, seem to have walked away from it. The CT department has one consultant taking leave, and one doing research, on top of being department head ,and the only remaining consultant.

MC has changed her mind - even if Harry's enfuriated her, and raised all her issues with him, for the rest of the day ?

MC's gone off with Harry to Chicago and Singapore. But we were last told that Chicago was temporary, and she would be coming back. Is she, or isn't she? Whats the point of RIic and Serena deciding she's promotable if she's off for good? And how can she return if Harry doesn't.? Do we end up with two invisible spouses?

I don't remember it being said that Chicago was temporary. I thought it was a permenant position though how they square that with American Unions I'm not sure if they didn't interview candidates there first.

I think harry and MC are both gone for good.

Jac losing her position whilst on maternity leave is distinctly illegal. They can't just put her back as Junior consultant as it has to be an equal position to the one that was left - I believe. But then demoting Elliot always seemed like an employment tribunal waiting to happen as well.

What the Americans will think about it is a huge unanswered question. It was them that wanted Elliot sacked and jac to front Herzig. But rather than being annoyed or worried, they've just chucked loads more money at Guy to set up a new Nuerosurgery unit?

I really don't think that it is sudden for Jac and Jonny's reconciliation or her deciding to take time out to properly bond with Emma. Both have been subtly building for some time I think.

Elliot shouting at Guy in the middle of a very tricky procedure was just WTF.

Am feeling a bit bah-humbug by saying this but I am a bit resentful that a character like Harry (who I never warmed to despite their best efforts) gets a HEA ending (even if it involves Mary-Claire who I did love) when so many great characters over the years got awful ones - am thinking Penny, Maddy and Diane in particular but also the likes of Frieda and Spence.

Elliot bugs me now, he really does. Seeing him in charge of Darwin again is not going to do anything for me. It was nice to see Jac happy for once but as kitkat said, why does she have to have one thing or the other? Why can't she have a great career and be a good mother as well?? Many millions of women around the world achieve it. Maybe we will see this in the future when she comes back, I hope so anyway.

It was a bit weird having Ric so involved in everything political last night when he has hardly been there for the past couple of years and he is about to take another "sabbatical" shortly I believe.

I do love Sacha and Essie together and loved the way she played Dom and Zosia (and how they acknowledged it too!). I hope they can make a go of it, I really do.

As for Jonny leaving well I won't miss him and imho he is still not the right man for Jac and never will be. The right man for her is in Penrith and goes by the name of Dr. Joseph Byrne.

No, it was definitely never said that Chicago was temporary. It was always a permanent job for MC. Also, both Jules and Niamh have confirmed on twitter that they are both off permanently with no plans to return at the moment, although both have said they would consider returns in some capacity in future. I see Niamh has confirmed on a Holby TV interview that the writers intended for Harry and MC to leave together and they awaited her return from The Fall in October to build up the storyline for them both. It kind of makes sense as the whole focus when MC returned in early October in spoilers was how she might be able to help Harry and the majority of her scenes from that time were with him.

I actually like the way they had Jac take maternity leave as her exit. As I've said before, my main interest in her storyline over the past year has been her relationship with Emma and I'm glad to see that they are now going to have her focus on that off screen. I am pretty sure that maternity leave regulations would not allow you to suspend maternity leave for 15 months after your child is born but I will overlook that for the storyline. Also, agree that the promotion of Elliot, demotion of Jac and indeed the first demotion of Elliot are probably tribunals waiting to happen. I forsee a job share for Jac and Elliot if Rosie returns to tie all that up. Either that or Elliot standing down to have more time to himself but I really can't see them demoting him again when she returns.

Just wondering was last night the first time in Holby history that there have been two sunset endings for two sets of permanent characters in the same episode?? I ask because as we've discussed on here happy endings for couples are so rare on Holby in general. In all the time I've been watching I'm not sure I have seen two sunset endings even in relatively close proximity where all four characters were permanent. I've seen very few sunset endings full stop and generally only when one character wasn't permanent in the show.

In fact, last night virtually every character was happy at the end!! Janny, Harry and MC, Essie and Sasha, Elliot for being reinstated, Mo and Elliot for being reunited with team Darwin at the end, Digby having fun at AAU, Raf, Fletch & co happy for Harry and MC and enjoying the party, Serena happy that she had been suggested for CEO, even Selfish was happy enough to have reached a resolution that suited him re neurosurgery. Has there even ever been an episode when so many characters were happy?! I thought it was great. Personally would have liked to have seen Selfish suffer a tad more, but I feel that if he is to remain in the show, even for six more months, they probably went about his standing down in the most realistic way for the character.

If the rules of television drama's is followed in that everybody is happy that surely means some horrible disaster is sure to happen to the hospital in the very near future.
